Conference Realignment Sucks

You're not being argumentative?

We fundamentally disagree. The schools are driving realignment. They are the greed. They are making the decision to prioritize money. The networks are just the banks.

College athletics are big business. They are paying everyone except the players. It is an arms race.
So, what you're saying is OUT left for more money of their own free will. Or were they enticed? I 100% think they were enticed. By either the SEC or ESPN back channeling the reality of what it would take to reach a financial goal. Yes OUT 'chose' the higher payout. But, if there wasn't a master plan of greed on the other side, I doubt that ever would've happened.

honestly... wish big12 didn't add ucf, houston, byu and cinci....... pac 12 scraps 1000000% better
Cincy just went to the CFP... BYU is the biggest brand in the conference.

UCF and Houston are the only questions. UCF has 3 10+ win seasons since Frost's last year. Houston has a top 5 MSA in the country, direct flights to tons of places, and won 12 games last season. Dana had lots of success in the Big 12 last time. Why not again at a better resourced school?

All quite true...but personally I'm disappointed that at no point some sort of scheduling alliance wasn't created to assuage UT and OU's concerns about matchups. FWIW, I'd have added CU and UH by now to get to 12.

The more I think about it, the more f@cked up it is that USC would be in the B1G. Doesn't feel like CFB anymore. I'm losing interest...

that was a fluke. non p5 will never get in again.

BYU is lame

ucf and houston are commuter schools and not even the 10th most popular in their states.

I truly hate that the trend seems to be moving towards forming these 16-20+ team conferences. I have really enjoyed the 10 team configuration of the Big 12 lately as I think the round robin play keeps things competitive and give no room for excuses like "well you didn't have to play teams x y and z this year so that is why your season looks so good."

That being said I realize it's a pipe dream that model will be sustainable now so whatever needs to happen to keep the Big 12 stable I will be onboard if that means adding more teams. I would rather that ISU be in an overcrowded P5 conference than have to worry about joining a lesser conference. I worry that the long term result of all this realignment is going to lead to pricing out the average fan when it comes to ticket prices as seems like college athletics are headed towards being a semi-pro league anymore and with that will just come increased and inflated costs that will ultimately get passed down to the fans and ticket holders.

I don’t think it was about money in OUT. That was about branding. A$M was passing UT because of the SEC.

Well amongst the million possible outcomes would be the top 10 or 20 programs in one 'conference' and everybody else in a large group that could elect to divide themselves up into 10 team geographic pods. We could end up back where we started after lots of fire and brimstone, of course.

Ok Let's say you're right. Why on earth jeopardize your branding going to a league guaranteed to give you more losses?
No offense to WhoIsThis, but you’re absolutely right. I’m sure there is greed, but a team or conference could wish for or hope for whatever they want…but it doesn’t matter if someone isn’t willing to pay them. (See that in baseball free agency.)

And it takes at least two to drive valuations as high as they are. Plus we know ESPN was responsible for the whole OuT situation. You can be mad that the schools are willing to sell out for more money, but the networks are absolutely behind it…enticing them to leave.

I don’t think that’s guaranteed, the Big 12 is good, but it’s better to lose to SEC than KU.

Some would say it’s better to lose in the sec than be average in the Big 12

UT was the exception. They were not about money. They were about brand and market share, although brand snd money are correlated

The schools are money hungry. The networks aren’t enticing them. You think the schools need the networks to tell them? Lol

This thread is for people who are against change.
I get your sentiment here, but do you really think college football is better now than it was with smaller, more regional conferences where everybody played everybody, and rivalries naturally occurred due to a century of history between the teams? I think even the teams that moved on to greener pastures so to speak would agree it feels a lot more hollow than it used to.

No I don’t but money is driving this. Can we stop holding on to the century and history. Teams like army and navy use to be good then we realized we can’t have our athletes get killed in war. Times change, things change. Evolve and adapt.

I lived at Belmont and Sheffield across from the Vic Theater right out of college ‘92-94. We’d walk 4 blocks up Sheffield and scalp a cheap ticket in the outfield bleachers. That’s when the outfield became a thing. It was awesome. The outcome of the game mattered naught.
That was after the shower in the bleachers

I get it and agree. We can’t go back so might as well accept it and move on. Doesn’t mean the folks complaining in this thread are wrong though.
