Collegiate Duals

What’s your thoughts on why Frost didn’t wrestle Lnox after making weight and not having an injury?
My thoughts are that he had the Flu - dresser has been open about that. Dresser has a track record of throwing wrestlers out there with bad cuts as learning opportunities. I trust dresser to be upfront with the fans… best predictor of current/future behavior is past behavior.

I just have missed that. Can you send me a link about the flu?

Crazy he’d be sitting on the bench with the whole team that night while he had the flu.

No one has said it yet, but we also can’t pretend our reasons for skipping matches are noble and purposeful while the other teams are just dirty duckers.
I don’t know how noble we are but we have by far the most transparent coach in college wrestling and doesn’t lie about injuries or guys being out.

There is but how we know the difference is the question.

The Frost/Knox situation looks an awful lot like a duck objectively. Hope it’s not, but who knows.

Just saying if we’re ISU fans want to throw that term around, expect to see it right back.
No idea if frost was ducking, hard to say but it’s not comparable to what we saw vs Cornell last year right. I think that’s all anyone’s saying. That was at least four guys who had all just wrestled and all stood to gain from not wrestling us. It’s not comparable to one guy who may or may not have been sick not wrestling in a single dual.

Ducking is when a coach doesn’t send wrestler(s) out to wrestle due to a loss would hurt their seeds. This is exactly what Missouri & Cornell did last year. They didn’t even try to hide it.

Forcing a wrestler to make weight for the first dual of the year is not ducking. Coaches & wrestlers knew he wasn’t going to wrestle for some time but they still wanted him to make weight.

Not wrestling due to injury or sickness is not ducking.

I feel like missouris guys were actually sick to some degree right. Wasn’t conference tournament soon after and they all looked awful from the flu or something. Not sure if that’s true for all of them but definitely seemed like something was up.

For some reason I thought of Mizzou after reading this.

Every Missouri wrestler that had a ranking over us was “sick” and every wrestler ranked below our guy was healthy. Yes, this happened at every weight. I’m sure a couple were sick but not every single highly ranked wrestler. It gave the coach an excuse to pull all higher ranked kids out as they were going to lose the meet without the couple sick/injured guys.

Maybe I’m misremembering then. I don’t specifically remember what it was that made me think it was somewhat legit.

Crabby is talking about the Stanford meet. He weighed in , was on the mat during warm ups , stood in line with the robe on during pre meet handshakes .Dresser said he didn’t wrestle due to an extremely bad weight cut that would not have been healthy for him to go .

Thanks for clarifying. So Crabby being crabby is saying that one incident might be seen as a duck--so we shouldn't accuse other teams of ducking.

I am ok with saying that first Frost match was a duck if we must. First match of the year, horrible weight cut, Dresser saying borderline would have been put in the hospital.

Much much different than a team wrestling all of its lower ranked guys and sitting all of their higher ranked guys directly after wrestling matches.

Just my opinion though.

Yeah, I misunderstood. But for this match, I think it was Johnny’s before the match, Dresser said that Evan got down to be able to go, but to your point, was physically in no position to wrestle and that it would have been dangerous. I think he mentioned Evan being wobbly. Don’t quote me, though.

It sure seems much less like a duck and much more like being responsible with Evan‘s health. Given that he knew the dual was going to be pretty tight and that he likes to win, I don’t think that dresser is sitting anybody the second meet of the year For NCAA seeding purposes.

It being dangerous is a joke. Wrestlers have cut significantly more weight and been thrown out there hundreds of thousands of times. Might have looked like Slaton vs Fanthorpe, but it being for health reasons thing is nonsense.

If the cut was that bad and they were being responsible with his health, they would have stopped the weight cut 2-3 pounds over instead of letting him continue all the way to weight.
