Coaching Search: Place your bets

Someone else. That’s how it works. Fred kept TJ to do that job. There’s no shortage of “recruiters” in the world. I don’t understand why people think like that.
Maybe people think Hoiberg wants Matt A because he brought him back at Nebraska after they spent years not working together? If Matt A wasn't important to Hoiberg, why bring him back? Either Hoiberg doesn't want anybody else, or can't get anybody else that he thinks is any good.

Ugh, I'm just ready for this to be done. If it's Hoiberg, get him in here so we can figure out if he can still coach or not. If not, get whoever else it will be in here so people can stop filling the boards with their obsession with bringing him back.

I know that’s the out pushed by some, but it wouldn’t be $10 million.
It may be more than you or Jamie would like to pay, but it’s not more than what would be available if Jamie wanted to go that direction.

If there’s a will, there’s a way. But there’s no will, yet.
I know the smoke is Nebraska would come down on the buyout but I've heard that's not true and I'm not sure why they would

That's been the main snag for me with the Hoiberg talk. There's this thought that Nebraska would come down because the past two seasons have been poor. But my interpretation of NU hiring Fred and the contract was that they were making a big investment in their program.

If Fred leaves after two poor years, and NU has to start all over, it's in their best interest to get everything they're owed, or as close as possible.

I don't care if it is Fred or not...but I could buy into an interpretation that NU could see a way out of this financial commitment in an attempt to start over with a less expensive coach. Things have changed financially since Fred arrived in Lincoln and we all know MBB barely registers on the radar in that state so...maybe NU would be willing?

They would. Clearly they’re not bombarding Jamie with huge discounts, no one does that in negotiating. But if Fred and Jamie agreed to him returning, and it was made clear Fred wanted out, Nebraska isn’t going to go with $10 million or bust.

You don’t understand why they would come down, yet you have no interest in paying it? Think about that. If Prohm had a high buyout to leave right now, would you be willing to come down? It’s not anywhere close to that for Fred at NU, but if he makes it clear he doesn’t want to be there Moos isn’t holding him captive for $10 million

Imagine the excitement going into next fall with having a top 10 football team and Fred Hoiberg coming back. And imagine how crazy Jack Trice would get when they would show Fred on the big screen.

Yeah.

The Pollard & Light district would just magically appear overnight in time for the first home game of 2021 if this were to happen.

If this is true then there is no reason why guys like Altman, Beilein, Sampson shouldn't be offered the job first.

Like Ive been saying. JP isn’t an idiot. He doesn’t need to “put out feelers” to guys he already knows don’t want to come here (Altman/Bielien) or a guy he would never hire even if he offered to take the job for free (Sampson).

Why didn’t the Jaguars offer Bill Belichek and Andy Reid before hiring St. Urban?

Anyone care to fill me in on why Dana Altman keeps getting mentioned? Oregon is a blue blood level program with the Nike support that Phil Knight is committing
Probably just his Midwest ties and might want to come home for the later stages of his career would be my guess.

For starters Beilein is unemployed and Iowa State is a much better job than Houston. Would your rather coach in the best conference in America every night or play Tulane and South Florida?

Your Belichek comparison is like Pollard calling up Bill Self and asking if he's interested in leaving Kansas for the job.

Cool...those work for me! But wasn't he the lead on Vaughn and...maybe the tall kid we lost to KU (did he ever even play)?
When it comes to guys like Vaughn and Diallo, there are no "leads." Its the whole staff, and primarily the head coach.
Matt A was great with the transfers. He had connections, or would make connections with former coaches and handlers of transfers. He was very good with the short term recruiting.

They would have zero incentive to do that. People saying so are wish casting.

I would want Matt here if Fred were to come back. He does the dirty work and gives zero *****.

I did not realize Charlie Henry was an assistant at Alabama under Oats. He is building a very good resume, and with now with Alabama turning around, I could see his next step being a head coach.
