Coaching Carousel

If I'm a TN fan, I'm asking if Gundy was contacted before or during negotiation with Schiano.
If Gundy (or even Purdue's coach) were viable options, why did they try to hire Schiano so fast?

I think the obvious answer is they didn’t. Or if they gauged interest, he wasn’t.

TN is apparently willing to double his salary to over 8 million. The only reason they are willing to do that is because they got burned. And it is another reason why yesterday was so important to us....you better believe TN was going to come hard after our guy, buyout be damned.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Rumor is TN offered to double his salary to 8.4mil/year. He makes 4.2mil currently and a 125,000 year increase. He just signed a new 5 year contract in June 2017. Only a 3 mil buyout.

Holy ****** ****

Edit-

Twitter says Gundy to TN is a done deal, and the players were just informed fwiw.

It's surprising that the buyout number was only 3 million. I wonder if Gundy's camp pushed for that or if OSU got to the point where their attitude was "We don't want to push you out, but if you wanted to leave we wouldn't stop you."

Baylor rebuilding, K State's future unknown, an Okie st rebuild imminent, Holgs and Kingsbury with seats warming up, a 1 year jump on Hermans UT rebuild, OU about to take on life without Baker....Campbell has this league right where he wants it.

For the 1000th time, a 3 million dollar buyout is standard if not a bit high.

Campbell’s 9 million was shockingly high.

The buyout to fire a coach and the buyout to hire a coach are two very different things.

I think the TBoone and Gundy relationship isn't exactly on the best terms. I could see why Gundy wants out.

Yep. T Boone financed a huge deal for that basketball coach but was stingy with gundy.

This Gundy thing only makes me believe it's a wonderful life in Cyclone Country.

Think of this.....our coach and AD came to an agreement around the dinner table. No agents. No lawyers with them.

Two men came to the agreement to keep coach in town. The college football carousel keeps spinning faster.

Our golden age of ISU Football is here. It is RIGHT NOW. Games on TV. Healthy athletic department. Athletes graduating. The right coach with the right mindset bringing in players to mold into men. We have amazing representatives in our student athletes.

Cyclone Fans, I urge us all to truly enjoy this era in an era of college sports gone wrong

Agreed. We went 7-5 (and a few plays from easily being 9-3) with a team nobody had winning more than 4 games and recruitment is only going to get better. Enjoy the ride, buy season tickets, donate to the Cyclone or Gridiron clubs. If Campbell thinks our fanbase is amazing now, wait until we sell out season tickets and set new Cyclone Club donations.

Matt Luke vs Nick Saban? Joe Moorhead vs Nick Saban? Hahaha SEC is going to be so top heavy for the next 3-4 years.

Arizona State is heating up with Herm Edwards and Sumlin in the mix. Mack Brown even stated he would consider ASU if they had interest.

Tennessee needs to offer the job to Peyton Manning. Offer like $10M per for 5 years. How could he possibly turn that down?

I guess it could be, but other than the Manning Passing Academy I've never seen him express much of an interest in running a college program or coaching at any level.

Really, at this point the only hire that makes sense for Tennessee is Tee Martin. I know his lack of experience is glaring, but bringing back a direct connection to their last national championship is just about the only way they're going to salvage a PR win.
