Coach Rogers Introductory Press Conference

He mentioned a chief of staff and GM on staff, has he said what those roles actually do? NIL stuff?

This is a good overview of Iowa State's new GM and his role.

No-nonsense and all business is a good attitude.

Also noticed that every time he talked about the on-the-field stuff like scheme, he talked defense first. He is a defense guy. That only highlights how crucial the OC hire is.
Matches the results at WSU last season -- their defense wasn't bad, pretty good even. Their offense...definitely not good.

Just wow on that press conference! Seemed to put Pollard in his place. A little anyway. He is right on looking somewhat crabby! Go Cyclones.

Two observations.
1. When he talked about focus on player relationships and development versus scores, it reminded me of when I coached. I still remember the shocked looks on parents faces when I said the focus would be on things we can control - conditioning, skills and execution - versus the score. But it’s 100% true. If the players have those three things the wins will come.
2. He said what I wanted to hear about bringing staff, continuity, building relationships, etc. Some might say it’s coach speak, but again the continuity of who he works with is critical. He was also honest about the impact on what players stay/leave with the change in defensive/offensive philosophy.

Initial reaction? I’m positive.

I feel we'll get less coach speak from rogers

I like CMC’s program and I like that he churned out nfl players like never before but listening to a coach interview can only get better.
One rare talent the Campbell staff had was in player evaluation. They found and signed guys that routinely played above their star rating here. If CJR is going to be successful here, he has to be able to do that well.

Just watch fb on Sundays lately. There’s no way previous staff was that good at developing, they evaluated some 5* talents better than lazy blue bloods did.

McDonald, Breece, Higgins etc would’ve still made nfl at big money cfb programs. Purdy might have been exact same player but drafted 1st round. I’m sure they developed those guys well but more of it is in finding them.
