What did the Diante Garret vs Chris Babb matchup look like last year? Was Diante constantly frustrated in practice? How much better did Babb make him? Or was Babb not as good at it last year? Did coach have to say "OK Chris, back off a little"? Doubtful, I'm sure, but in hindsight it'd be interesting to see how that matchup played out last year.

Great question....I hadn't thought about reflecting back on how some of the talent we have this year made folks better last year. You are right, if Babb was on Diante a lot, that could be a huge factor in the improvements Diante showed in a year. If playing real games was a bit easier than practice, that could account for things. Great point!

I'm no basketball coach and haven't stayed at a Holiday Inn in months. BUT I really can't imagine CFH making Babb back off. If anything, it explains why DG improved a lot last year.

That is, assuming that CB guarded DG in practice anyway

I thought I remembered recently seeing (maybe in a write-up bw CW?) that Hoiberg didn't realize that Babb would become such a good defender this season. If that's the case, maybe he didn't match up against DG that much in practice.

Huh? I haven't seen them standing side-by-side, but Babb is "listed" at 6'5", and I thought DG was "listed" at 6'4".

There about the same. I remember reading that DG measured either 6'4.5 or 6'5.5 at Portsmouth last year i think. Im pretty sure it was 6'5.5 though

Edit: Just looked it up, and he did measure 6'5.5 at Portsmouth with a 6'9 wingspan. It doesn't say if it was with shoes or not but if it wasn't, they add almost an inch and half to their height which would make him 6'7!! I still don't understand how he wasn't drafted. Super quick, tall, great ball handler and a good passer. It's Baffling

I don't take Babb as being that tall, but I could be wrong.

In this photo, Babb doesn't look much shorter than Royce.

^^^ That's because the same guy who measured Michael Beasley's height measured Royce's.

What does the Babb - Korie Lucious practice match up look like?

Hadn't thought of that, either. How much better are they making each other? Is Lucious a scorer? Maybe he's defending Clyburn?

I guess this is another reason why recruiting talent is so important. The only way you get any better is by playing other people/teams that are better than you.

Yes, the article said that because the scout team is always mimicking their opponents, they never saw the "real" Babb.
