Chicago trip ideas

Um, I think we had the same vacation and went to the same places at the same time.

...So you need to PM me next time and we'll stare at some Monets together, yes? We LOVE Chicago and have started going every six or so months the past couple of years.

Coalfire has a Westown location too, although I like the Southport location better. For a long time my go-to for pizza in the city. Still great. I recommend dining in to have it at its best

I'm so glad to hear we're not the only ones who enjoy it! We got the ricotta/pepperoni and it was incredible.

If you’re going for the cubs, take the Wrigley field tour. Get to see all around it that way. Science museum is solid. If you’re a sports family you can also tour soldier field.

There are so many great thigs to do in Chicago and many great thoughts have been provided. If you want to experience a mix of some old and new time Chicago, I would recommend staying at The Palmer House in the Loop. Brunch at Wildberry Pancakes then visit the Bean and Millennium Park. Walk to Grant Park and the Art Institute, then other museums if time allows. for the evening, take a Uber to Gene and Georgetti's for an old time Steakhouse dinner. Next day take the Architectural Boat Tour (highly recommend!) and then the Cubs game. Dinner at Gino's East (deep dish pizza at a classic Chicago pizza place) on the Magnificent Mile. If you are into Architecture the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Tour in Oak Park is nice afternoon.

Sounds like a good CF get together, I’m in Schaumburg and will meet up with anyone in Chicago, just shoot a PM.although my daughter, who is at Loyola now would probably be a better tour guide, especially for those hidden gem eating places.

We drove through Schaumburg to take our kids to Medieval Times (I know, I know) last summer! That's a great area, and this would be a FANTASTIC CF meet-up!

My daughters used to have there birthday parties there every year for about three years in a row, when they were 8-10 years old, they loved that place. I was in a brewery club with the guy who played the Prince and his wife who was the Maiden in that story, back 15 years ago or so. He would give me a deal for the basic price for the VIP package. It’s actually a fun night out.

I had a spectacular view from the Starbucks on Michigan.

Also, we like the embassy suites just a few blocks from navy pier.

A couple tourist things, see the bean in millennial park and the married wirh children fountain just a smidge south of it.

Years and years ago we heckled our knight pretty ruthlessly.

Not realizing he would be in the bar after the show.

We had a blast at it! Our 10-year-old had some crazy bloodlust, he was basically screaming "KILL HIM" every time our knight jousted. :D

That's a pro move, my friend! Janny took our youngest for candy while I went to the jewelry store. :D Similar ideas!

I LOVE this. Was he cool about it?

Ours lost just immediately, and often. Our youngest was so annoyed, but picked a new one pretty quickly.

I know your coming to Chicago and probably want to do the deep dish thing, but if you are looking for a thinner slice within a brew pub, I’d recommend Piece Pizza in Wicker Park, just east of Milwaukee on North Ave. they claim to be New Haven style, I wouldn’t call it that, but they make a good pie.

I lived 5 blocks from there and lived on this pizza. Once I was meeting friends there for cubs playoff game watch and they cancelled last minute emergency, I had ordered our pizza already. I ate the whole thing, just couldn’t stop. They used to have live band karaoke a lot and it’s surprisingly awesome and a rush compared to normal karaoke.

The Wrigley field tour is really good..... highly recommend.

Agree- Piece is good, and not really New Haven. A nice change of pace.

Some people really like Robert’s near Navy Pier, a take on NY pizza.

There are legitimately too many good pizza options in Chicago, let alone food in general. I mean, I go out, or do takeout, for nearly every meal, and I barely make a dent in hitting my favorites

We always make a stop at the Billy Goat Tavern. It’s a dive, but the burgers are great and it’s a cool location being under street level. Also, that river boat tour was cool.

Pro tip: if you need to go south on the train fairly soon after the game, walk a few blocks north to the Sheridan stop. This allows you to get on the train and sit down before it rolls up to the stadium and gets crowded.

When I moved out of the city, I got the NW suburbs gamewatch location going in Rolling Meadows so I’d have somewhere to watch games. Haven’t been able to make it as frequently lately now with 2.5 year old twins but hope to be back some this fall

When I have time on the way North to a game I do this for breakfast and get off at Belmont and go to Ann Sathers. LOVE that place. Incredible cinnamon rolls.
