Chicago Roll Call

Any Chicago folks have hotel recommendations for that area before I book?
I'd stay in the loop and take the green line in. Not a ton of hotels right by the United center and not as much to see and do. Or stay in Fulton market at the hoxton or nobu if you want something closer to the UC but a bit less busy.

After the game they'll (probably) have express busses from the UC to downtown and river north. https://www.transitchicago.com/bus/19/

Any idea what hotel team will be at?

9:10PM tip is such a pain in the ass. I'll be there, but trying to figure out if we stay in the city or just drive back to Madison after the game. Really don't want to be rolling back home at 2pm or later, but not that excited about paying a couple hundred bucks to not get back to hotel room until after midnight anyways.

I would love to go. I've been a die hard since my time in Ames. Was on Jim Walden's first two football teams. Live in Evanston so easy for me to get there. As of this morning cheapest nosebleeds I saw behind the baskets are in the $350s. I'm at the age that if I'm going to any game I'm getting good seats, and for Friday that's in the $1,200+ range. Will monitor throughout the week.

They'll likely be at the Westin, Hyatt Regency, Marriott Marquis, or Palmer House Hilton if I had to guess based on previous events.

I recommend River North, Streeterville, and Mag Mile north of the river. I'm staying at the Residence Inn River North. Other great options are The Wade on the lakefront near Navy Pier, Embassy Suites, Sheraton Grand, Marriott on North Michigan Ave, Hilton Suites. Nice places just south of the rive too, such as Hyatt Regency, Trump, or another very cool Hampton Inn built into the old Chicago Auto Club building.

A lot depends on what you want to do during your spare time on Friday and Saturday. For instance, if you like baseball, you might want to stay near Wrigley Field or right on a train route. If you want museums and parks, then stay south of the river on Michigan Avenue (Palmer House and Chicago Hilton are iconic). There are tons of places in nearby neighborhoods too, but read the reviews as neighborhoods can vary greatly.

Evanston is also a great area for restaurants and uppity university culture. And you can take a L train past Wrigley Field to downtown.

One other thing to watch on prices is parking. Many are valet only and expensive. Others have a per day fee, but may not have in/out privileges. If you are just parking your car to sit for a few days, there are usually better options nearby than the hotel parking.

I have my train back to Chicago from St Louis this evening. I'll have to start typing up recommendations for food spots at various price points, hotels, and things to do on Saturday. I'm sure there will be a lot of input from other Chicago local people

Looking forward to getting your recommendations as you have a much more current perspective.

Did the project with the Museum of Design ever work out? If so, I want to make sure to visit it (near the Bean).

Can't wait for Friday....

Local, so didn't try to hard to make St Louis work, and saved hotel/ticket/travel $$$ for what I knew would be steep Chicago tickets. Once the game was secure about half way through the second half, bought 2 seats for both friday and sunday.

Daughters were home for spring break, and they drove 5 hours back to Ames right after the game. Driving back here Friday morning for the game.
