Chi-Chi’s first location set

East of Valley West Mall. The corner of University and 22nd? That could actually be in WDM or Windsor Heights. I lived in Altoona so it was all the same to me.
Yeah that's where I remember it being. After it closed it was a revolving door for a lotta places. It had a "corner of death" mantra.

Not sure when the Chi-Chi-s closed down, but I ate there at some point in the mid to late 90's when I was in college. They tore the building down and built the Casey's around 2005.

Yeah that corner and the corner where Cool Basil struggled for some time.

If I can someday get a twice grilled bbq burrito again, all will be right with the world.

Chi-chis Eau Claire Wi was prime date nite for me and ex-mrsNWICY. A couple of rounds of margaritas was a guaranteed winner.

Going to a Chi-Chis over a local Mexican joint is absolutely moronic. There's good Mexican food almost everywhere. Certainly everywhere that would have a Chi-Chis location.

I think they all use the same ingredients off of the same truck. Its good, but I've yet to taste any diference in local Mex restaurants. In any state. I ate at a local place north of Santa Cruz last year (menu was in Spanish) and could've swore I was eating at a local joint in small town Iowa.

Why? These died out when authentic Mexican food starting migrating north. Mexican Chain restaurants are garbage. (see on the border)
I was going to state something similar. I guess since Mexican places are no longer ridiculously inexpensive, there could be a market for inexpensive Mexican-ish food. More likely, they are going to try to monetize the nostalgia while they can with the plan to close in about 2 years.

I agree with your general sentiment but in On The Borders defense, their grocery store tortilla chips are excellent.
I agree as thats the brand my wife buys. Really though, how hard is it to make a good chip?

We actually buy the Chi-Chi's branded salsa on occasion and we were on a kick for a while buying the branded corn muffin mix, Honestly, without the branded products, it probably would have completely fallen out of people's minds.

Yeah that is all the way in West Des Moines. I vaguely remember it but don’t remember anywhere else going into that building. Across the street yeah that place has always been a revolving door. Honestly I don’t remember what it was originally.

it seems like there is a Mexican restaurant on every corner here in the Des Moines metro. Adding a chain Mexican restaurant seems like a poor idea. The market is already flooded with a bunch of local options already established.
