This is Tiger Woods son. He golfed with his father at the PNC championship and turned enough heads that there is now a betting line on his potential future pro career. For anyone interested you can place a bet at 1500-1 that he will win a major before turning 22 and 825-1 that he will win a major before turning 25 at Sports Betting Dime. The odds are 2-1 that he will earn a pro card by age 24. The over/under for the year in which he plays in his first major is 2035.5.

Charlie is currently 11.

Good looking swing for an 11 year old. Makes me question why I even bother trying to be a good golfer...

Pretty rare you see an elite athlete have a kid that's also an elite athlete in the same sport. I'm sure there are some examples, but I'm blanking on any. I suppose it comes down largely to motivation. The kid is set for life, I can't imagine putting in the time/effort needed to become a great golfer.

Griffey was the first name that popped in to my head.

I saw the thread title and conflated Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood and thought one of the Rolling Stones had died.

Some of this may have to do with the expectations. If great things are expected of you, it takes some of the joy away.

I had a classmate who's older brothers both had successful stints at UNI with one getting drafted and playing in the Super Bowl. He is the only person to reach the NFL from our hometown. My classmate quit football after his freshman year. He was a very good athlete too. Still played basketball, baseball, and ran track, but didn't want much to do with football.

A pretty obvious example of multiple generations of success is the Manning family, but you are correct that they are fairly uncommon.

Vlad Guerrero is another.

It seems like golf is a sport that would be likely to be good by a father/son duo. Golf is an expensive sport and takes a lot of time to master. Having an all-time great as a father would lead to the best coaching and an opportunity to be great, as long as the interest is there.

You would think golf would be that way, but I can't think of another example of a father/son duo even on tour. I want to say maybe Craig Stadler's kid was on tour? But that's about all I've got.

The Mannings and it looks like the third generation is on it's way with Cooper's oldest son.

I was thinking about Bob Tway and his son Kevin Tway...

Way up there
Griffey was the first name that popped in to my head.

Griffey and Manning's were who I thought of but Tiger isn't just a superstar...he's MJ, Babe Ruth, Muhammad Ali, Gretzky. An Icon. This is going to be an entirely different deal, we're seeing Similar with Lebron's kid coming up. If Bronny is an NBA player, he could legitimately come into a league his father is still dominating. It's unprecedented.
