CFB Playoff Rankings

Three of the final four spots will be easy to pick. There are always three obvious picks for the playoffs but its that final fourth ranking that seems to always be questionable.

Winner of LSU at Bama is likely in and the top seed if they win out.
Winner of Penn State at Ohio State is likely in and the two seed if they win out.
Clemson will not get challenged in the ACC and they'll coast into the three seed.

Fourth seed gets interesting. One loss LSU/Bama loser that didn't make their conference title game? One loss PSU/OSU loser that didn't make their conference title game? What if Georgia wins the SEC conference title game and we have a one loss LSU/Bama that only lost then? One loss PAC 12 champ between the winner of Oregon and Utah? One loss Oklahoma? What if Baylor is 13-0 somehow? What if Minnesota is somehow 13-0 and they beat previously undefeated OSU/PSU in the B1G conference championship game, do they get in over a one loss OSU/PSU?

Pretty sure it was Ohio State and unfortunately they went on to win it so it just confirmed the committees decision...

That was one-loss situations though, albeit just wrong.

I have a hard time believing an undefeated team doesn't at least get in the 4 but who knows...if so, just another argument for 8 teams.

On the other hand...if there's one school I want to see get left out despite no losses, it's Baylor.

Starting last night the polls absolutely matter.

Agree completely. OU is basically out of it already because of how this group of AD's screwed them over last night. And why are AD's doing it anyway?

Does Gary Barta, or let's say JP (if he were ever in the room) really watch a ton of football every Saturday?? Hell no. They are crazy busy every Saturday with their own teams.

At this point I’d be more comfortable with a chosen panel of oddsmakers making the selections. Not that that’d ever happen. Do away with all conference affiliations with bowls. Let the top 4-5 bowls rotate annually through the selection process, and have Vegas give them a Top 10 before they make their selections. Play the bowls and a + 1 game based on the outcome of the bowls.

I'd be willing to bet a 13-0 Baylor wouldn't get in.

I don't think they would. Their non con was about the weakest in the entire country if I remember correctly?

And if they beat OU, then OU will fall in the rankings even further, so when they likely face each other again in the title game, OU will be ranked less than they are now.

Big 12 is so disrespected nationally. Top to bottom it has to be the best conference. There are no off weeks in the Big 12. Even Kansas and West Virginia are competitive. They should use Sagarin ratings for Playoff and bowl rankings.

Their non-conference hurts them plus they had to go to Overtime to beat Texas Tech & TCU and they beat West Virginia at home by 3. That doesn't help either.
