With the latest round of conference realignment (less C-USA which got gutted) all conferences have at least 12 members. Currently, the Pac 12, Big 12, Big 10, & all G5 conferences play 9 conference games. The SEC & ACC play 8 conference games.

Personally, I don't think this gets enough attention and it leads to two conferences have a huge advantage.

If there was a NCAA football commissioner I'd mandate this be changed to all conferences be required to play 10 conference games and two non-conference games. This allows for a "warm up' game and rivalry game to occur. Also, remove playing FCS schools.

End rant.

It needs to be part of the CFP expansion talks... but it isn't.

Great point SEC has 13 of 14 teams bowl eligible. 5 of them were 6-6 overall. Add another conference game and that drops the number of bowl eligible teams to 11.

Big XII has 7 bowl eligible teams and two teams with 5 wins. If we played one less conference game (and replaced with cupcakes) we would have had 9 of 10 teams bowl eligible.

It gets tricky when conferences get 14 or 16 teams. In my ideal world, conferences would have 12 teams and 8 conference games with more strategic and competitive non-con games.

Should have to play a minimum of 10 regular-season games against P5 competition -- whether that's 8/2, 9/1, or 10/0 is up to each conference.
