So when I was a kid, one had to go to the store and buy a pack of cards and try to complete a whole set with help from trading duplicates with friends. I never paid attention to which ones were worth more. Anyways, so this card and the previous card was just produced and bought directly from the factory via an auction? I assume there are CC regular cards in some pack somewhere worth like 15 bucks maybe if you get one ? I don’t feel like digging around for answers. I’ve been out of the trading card interest 40 years ago

Way up there
Sports cards are a huge business, online breakers are no different that gambling. Like others have said, this card really isn't that high. The Pirates were offering season tickets for 30 years for the Skenes RC 1/1.

Remember when every small town in Iowa and every town in general had a card shop? And then they all went out of business? It's still just as gd stupid as when they all went out of business.

Quite frankly that number isn’t that impressive given the stature of CC

That’s not even close to the top 50 most valuable sports cards. That list bottoms out at $700K. I’d be surprised if that’s in the top 100. Buyer might be getting good value there.

I think the big difference is that it is this valuable in year 1. im not a sports card guy, but i'd guess the most valuable cards ever are decades old. Big difference here is that this is made as a 1 of 1 card.

My brother gifted me a Michael Jordan Fleer rookie card in 1985/86 and he got it for I think $5.

In the 90's I used to dig pop cans out of the trash in order to compile enough nickels to buy packs of basketball cards. They are all worthless now. sans a few jordan and shaq cards.

That’s the difference with modern cards, the new hot cards come out and overtake the previous years best cards. I thought I hit it big with a 2022-23 Messi patch auto and it’s worth like a grand. Might be able to get $1500 with a PSA 10. Hardly life changing. That’s enough to get a few hobby boxes of the newest set which probably has 25 different Messi auto variations in it.

It’s no longer a start low and go up. It’s immediately rocket ship and then drop when the next set comes out. And there are a **** ton of sets coming out all of the time, like all year long for every major sport.

I don’t know the ins and outs of trading cards, but my buddy’s brother got a rookie Jordan card in a set he won in an auction.

Graded at a PSA 10, he sold it for $140K. Was going for like $175K during Covid

That's awesome, good for him. Mine's probably in the PSA 1-3 range, lol.
