Carson Hansen appreciation thread

From what I have read, Campbell is retaining quite a few high level players from Penn State.

Combine that with the nucleus of Iowa State transfers and a half dozen high profile transfers with their NIL cash...they are going to be pretty damn good.
30 million dollars can help with that.

I’m sure they are. All I’m saying is that there is a huge difference between being in the CFP and being an actual contender. I do not believe that there are many players on either ISU or psu rosters that are good enough to be major contributors on a NC team. Certainly not Rocco.

Agree to disagree. Before Rocco's injury last year, he was playing extremely well. I doubt there is any single returning QB in the country with more experience. I will be pulling for him next year.

Why will you be pulling for him next year? Are you a Penn State fan now?

I think people are misconstruing what many of us are saying. We don't wish any ill will personally or physically on Rocco, or Matt, or anyone for that matter. To do that would be evil. I don't even "hate" any of them either.

I just don't care about them either way any more. They are NOT Cyclones anymore... they quit on us.

And yes... a lot of the new guys we will be bringing in also quit on their teams too... BUT... at least they will now be Cyclones. All you can do in these times is cheer on the coaches and players that choose to be here for the season that they are here... that's it. And don't become too attached to any of them, because they could very well leave us too after one year here.... that's just the way it is.

I think Rocco is genuinely a GREAT person who did so much good for the state of Iowa. I personally enjoy seeing good things happen to good people, crazy right?? I'd prefer to see him succeed. I have zero hate or animosity towards him. None.

Some of you people act like this new coaching staff was on their hands and knees begging Rocco to stay. Behind closed doors, you know dang well this coaching staff just wants a fresh start.

To say Rocco QUIT on Iowa State is utterly freaking ridiculous! He got screwed by the system right before his senior year. Period.

I agree…and like it or not, my takes on the whole NIL thing to date are:

1. It’s stupid - clearly pay for play; not true NIL

2. It’s been funded by the fans up until this point, and we’ve been pressured to pony up. Noting this, there was always going to be increased expectations placed on the players…which honestly seems reasonable.

No doubt that as fans, we can respond better to difficult situations, but there should have been better education for the players to understand how handle these expectations. Their posts, as they’ve been announcing their entering the portal, have seemed far beneath the compensation they’ve earned….the equivalent of a key employee just writing in to give their two week’s notice. Especially guys like Rocco - he was a highly compensated key individual…he should have acted like that. Yeah, it kind of sucks and is stupid to lay that on a 22 year old…but so is paying him over a million dollars as a college athlete.

Carson Hansen is an outstanding football player and a better human being. He is the IOWA STATE man we have known and admired for 150 years. A hard nosed striver. He represents the IOWA STATE ethos. Our Cyclone DNA is not Matt Campbell. Our DNA is Abraham Lincoln and everyone since that has arrived on Lincoln Way with hopes and dreams and a determination to become successful in life. A hope in the unseen.
LOYAL SONS, FOREVER TRUE!!!

How many times did Hansen sing that???? Or mean it???? Same as everyone else I have to guess.

Umm…no. Not buying this. Rocco noted in his own statement (when entering the portal) that he had meaningful conversations with Coach Roger’s BUT decided to pursue new opportunities. I don’t know how you read into that any way other than Coach Roger wanted him back, but he decided to move on.

I was very proud of Rocco prior to Campbell leaving. He carried himself well and fought hard. There was no doubt he was injured during the Cincinnati game…and that impacted his play the rest of the year…but he did his best to keep going. Admirable.

Not admirable…not leading the team to play in the bowl game. He missed an opportunity to be a real leader and actually fulfill his final sentence in his portal entry announcement (that he would always represent Cyclone Nation with pride).

I understand where you're all coming from, but jeezus you/we are all dicks.

Rocco has one year left to impress NFL scouts. He can stay with his OC and HC at PSU, while throwing to familiar faces Ben and Gabe.

Plus the rumors of $3.5MM - I would say he is an idiot if he did not make the move. I am sure Rodgers wanted to keep him, but not knowing what the roster would look like = big risk for Rocco.

He gave everything he could while here - but this is not college football anymore and unfortunately it caught up to ISU. Campbell tried to keep it pure long as possible, but the system is broken and he had to make a change to have a chance to win it all.

Got news for everybody. The stupid idea that fans cheer for players that transfer out or coaches that move on to other programs to make more money is not normal in college athletics.

It’s entertainment and the players and especially coaches are ridiculously well paid to perform this meaningless entertainment. Letting the interest and passion that makes this the business it is and grants all these coaches and players the opportunity to make all this money mean fans root against them when they leave is perfectly normal. No one is wishing players or coaches to get cancer.

It’s just a game. So all the tsk tsking dorks that think it’s some horrible atrocity if someone wants Matt to lose games at Pedo State are the ones that need to get some perspective. Rooting against teams like the Hawks or Pedo State is part of the fun of sports.

It’s fun. It’s entertainment. It’s the reason these dudes make a lot of money.

Rocco prob isn’t an NFL QB, so it makes sense for him to go get paid for this one last payday. It also doesn’t mean I have to cheer for him at his new school. If it’s Pedo State then I’ll root against him every game. And I mean every game, EIU included.

You never cheer for Pedo State. Never. Any fan base that tries to justify Paterno because he won a bunch of games and donated to the ******* library needs to lose for eternity.

In fact the only actual serious part of all this that is outside of entertainment for me is Campbell talking about how Paterno was so great and had great integrity. **** that. It takes balls to have principles. Playing to the crowd and praising Paterno means you don’t have principles and you don’t have balls. Paterno was a piece of ****.
