I am looking to get a protectant put onto a car and see there are a lot of options out there. I am looking for one that prevents rock chips mainly, however, looking to learn more about the market place and quality installers in the Des Moines area. Also, advise as to any installer or product to stay away from.

Thank you and Go State!

IMO, you're going to need some kind of PPF to truly prevent rock chips.

Agreed. I don't know of any product that truly prevents rock chips other than a film/wrap of some sort. I have Xpel on the hood, front quarters and part of the rear quarters of my car. I also added some very small mud flaps specific to my car (they don't look as gaudy as they sound). I have a few nicks on the front bumper but if I were to pull the Xpel my paint should be perfect.

Not exactly sure.
A body guy put this road guard film on my pickup for me. That was a waste, lasted about a couple months and I rarely drive gravel.

We have paint protection film (Xpel) on our Mini Cooper. We drive four miles of rock before getting onto a paved road. It has held up well. Was put on by the dealer.

As a car detailing hobbiest over the years, the only thing I've used that has prevented all 100% rock and bug chips...is a hood cover. (Car bra).

They can be used and not damage the paint, but it is easy to damage the paint if your abuse them.

I've put XPEL on three cars now and have enjoyed good protection since. I've also added ceramic over the XPEL on two of the vehicles. It's not cheap but if you are truly interested in protecting the paint of your ride, consider it. Contact Jason at S&C on Dougals in Urbandale. (515) 276-9622

I've used XPEL on my bicycle frames :) Has worked out great with the exception of one rock that punctured through. And these are bikes that see 90% of their time offroad/gravel.
