I assume ISU will have guys participate again this summer? If so, does anyone know who will be playing? In particular, I would like to know if any of the incoming class guys will be playing. It is always fun to hear how the new guys look.

Disclaimer: I know that the Cap City performance of a player has very little to do with how he will perform in real games. However, I'm hungry for bball info year round. I'll take anything I can get.

Both Brackins and Brister have stated that they plan on playing. Both will be in Ames beginning in June.

Vette will be in the league, I just talked to him the other night. He's arriving in Ames in early June to start classes.

I'm excited that a lot of players are coming down and getting a head start on classes. It's nice that they can get one or two out of the way before they start the grind of practice and stuff during fall semester.

Just a friendly reminder to watch any face-to-face contact with prospects if you are a booster (and yes, a guy that signed a NLI is still considered a prospect until he reports to the team or starts his first day of classes). This is only allowed if you had a prior, non-sports related, relationship with the prospect prior to his/her start of 9th grade and is a NCAA violation otherwise.

It is good to hear Vette will be in the league. I assume most of the returning players that played last year will play again this year. Hopefully all the incoming players will play as well. I think we got near 100% participation (not saying every player played every game he was scheduled to) last year.

I went to a few cap city games last year... it's nice because it's free and you can get a first look at the new freshmen... and yeah... maybe the cap city league doesn't perfectly predict how good your team is going to be. But when I saw Wes Johnson play... you could tell he was going to be special. If the posts from before the site got switched over were still here I'd requote myself. But he was amazing to watch. Also, I saw Jiri shoot threes all day long there as well. (And he started out doing that this last season). McIntosh looked really quick in the Cap City league... and that is the only thing that I really inaccurately predicted for the season. He didn't try to beat people on the dribble as much as I thought he would.

Anyway... it's a LOT of fun and I might try to take some time off of my new job to get down to watch a Cap City game or two!

Is there a website with the cap. sched and team info pages? I work in Des Moines, so I want to catch a few games after work.

There hasn't been a website in the past, but once the league draft is finished, the Daily Worker usually prints the teams and schedule.

I wanna play in the league this year, see first hand what these boys are made of, LOL.

Isn't the CCL pretty much useless for developing post players???

Based on how Jiri played in it last year this statement holds water. All he did was chuck up 3 pointers. However Thompson did make Jiri his b!tch 1 game in the post too so I guess if you are dedicated to working on things it's possible to work on your post game but for Jiri he didn't look to interested at the time in playing down low. Maybe after GM got him to play like a big man if he plays in it again this year he'll take advantage of working on some post moves this time. But for the most part the league is run and gun with a lot of guys trying to go 1 on 1 or make a big dunk on a fast break plus a lot of 3 point attempts.

That's way I remember it. Hopefully it won't take GMac half a season to "unteach" Vette all of the bad habits he picked up in the CCL, like it did with Hubalek.

IMO, Jiri had all those bad habits long before last summers CCL.

Exactly! Jiri had those when he came to ISU and Wayne Morgan just helped put it further into his head. I was heckling Jiri at the CCL and there were many people ******** and could not stand watching or listening to all of his whining and pouting. Thank God GMAC put the smack down.

That's what I remember from the 1 game I saw, Jiri would get mad every time he got pushed around or bricked a 3 and then would just force something the next time he got the ball out of frustration. I'm glad he finally bought into GM's system because he has the talent to be a good post player. I'm excited to see what he does his senior year now that he's committed to playing closer to the basket.

If that's the case, then the CCL didn't help him. Which begs the question, why are the ISU post players playing in the CCL in the first place? There is (or at least used to be) a league/camp on the west coast somewhere for big men. As I recall, Victor Alexander participated in that league (or at least some big-man camp) between his freshman and sophmore years, and it dramatically improved his game.

I went to the games last year and agree with the posts about a whiny, complaining, 3 chucking Jiri stated above. I would bet this year hopefully we see a different Jiri. Thompson was by far the best post player we had there and I am looking forward to seeing him get after it this year with some more muscle on his frame and a year under GMac. Also was extremely impressed with Sean Haluska and now he is on our side. I also agree with the opinions that the players can learn some bad habits since they know the coaches are not there (nor can they be there) so they can showboat. All in all though, it is some great free entertainment and breaks the monotony of baseball season and we get to see Cyclones play.

And the question about the schedules. I couldn't find any schedules online but at every CCL game night, they had plenty of fliers showing the whole season's schedule so after the first night, I will post the entire league schedule when I get home, unless of course, another great CF'er types it faster then me..:biggrin9gp:

You can participate in the CCL and still go to a big man camp. Complaints about summer leagues are unwarranted. Would playing Playstation help them more? it's just pick up games.
