We generally dont seem to run any misdirection, play action, screens, etc. The missing element isnt our starters, it’s deception that we are missing. If teams overplay us, we need to have counters that hold them in check or punish them for it. It just doesn’t happen in this offense

Agree. This present show is not on the players. It is on the play calling and scheme. The players are not given the best chance to succeed.

Part of why the fans are turning on the present coach is that he preaches these things, winning in the margins, putting the players in the best situations to succeed, but then doesn't follow thru on the mantra.

Good point(s). Others on CF board have mentioned it, and I don't always give react/response to it.

We don't have to change the approach entirely or scrap it and go air-raid. Subtle variance can make a difference.

Perhaps that's "part of the process" and the staff plans to incorporate it gradually, but wants to "establish the framework" first. I hope that evolution doesn't require an entire season.

Can anyone recall the last time an ISU offense under CMC ran a trick play? A reverse, a fea flicker, anything? I can't. I'm not saying run them every other play but at least give it a try once in a while. Hell anything to try and catch the D off balance instead of just running straight into a brick wall every time.

At this point I'd like to see them come out against Okie State and just throw it every play the first couple series, maybe even start off with play action on play 1. That would definitly catch OSU off guard given our tendencies over the last, well forever. Give Rocco some confidence that you actually believe he can pass the ball and get the WR and TE involved immediately so maybe that will increase their confidence and effectiveness. At this point there is really nothing to lose, I mean they just laid an egg against Ohio and looked bad doing it.

Oh well, I'm sure it will be run up the middle on 1st down, run up the middle on 2nd down then throw a 3 yard out incomplete on 3rd down then punt. A guy can dream though.

For what it’s worth, there is a video on Tiktok of an ISU fan telling Campbell he’s on the hot seat, and CMC turning around and trying to get to the fan and having to be held back by security/police/his players. Those of you that are on tiktok, Sports illustrated me account has the video
In other news. Man landed on the moon!!!!! ;-)

The last trick play I remember us running was the double pass from Soehner to Allen against OU in 2020.

IIRC, they ran a flea flicker in 2021 against Iowa and Purdy had an under throw that was intercepted at midfield. Maybe that’s the moment the offense turtled up in it’s own shell.

Last week was the busted bust. Lots of starters gone for gambling, players out the portal, lots of starters out or slowed by food poisoning. True freshmen everywhere, red shirt freshmen everywhere. Offensive line??? Players that can catch the ball???

This is going to take a while to straighten out. Lots of fundamentals, lots of practice. Take a close look at the portal. Find/train a pass catching tight end. Put Kempt back on the sideline to work with the quarterback (I haven't seen him this year and he did wonders helping Purdy and Dekkers during the games.).

Air raid requires QB pass protection and receivers in the right spot that can hold on to the ball when it arrives.....not this year.

We need to take it easy -- grab a beer and wave a pom pom -- get ready for basketball and be happy with what football wins we can get this year. It will be better next year.

I think i saw Breece Hall score a TD on an off tackle run once. Seems like that was tricky enough

Hey, what do I know. Congrats to Becht and Coach for a great start to AIR RAID FOOTBALL.

Now if we can make just one hole once in a while for our ground game.

We actually had some pretty nice runs in the second half. Sanders looked way more comfortable out there and almost had two go the distance. That's a good sign but we're going to have to do it for more than .5-1 quarter. It was apparent though that OSU wanted to pin their ears back on the run... Our PA completely ripped them apart and credit Nate for those calls and then obviously Rocco for putting it on our guys. He was flawless. A couple of his throws under pressure where he changed his arm angle to get the throw off were so impressive. He's got a pretty darn good arm for his size.

2021 Texas game, there was a double pass from Purdy, to X to Milton for a TD. It was one of those moments where I could tell something was up because Milton hadn't played much and the formation was odd.
