could just as easily be to prevent lawsuits - ESPN had some really shady **** planned to get OuT out of the Big 12 without them having to pay exit fees as well as paying conference members significantly less in the future.

I 100% believe this is true, but I don't know many of the details. Is there a good source with a fairly complete story of what ESPN wanted, how they got stymied, etc. ?

My understanding is that ESPN wanted OU and Texas to the SEC, and they didn't want the SEC (themselves actually) to have to pay the grant of rights buyout. Someone (possibly A&M) leaked the info before anyone at ESPN, OU, or Texas, wanted it to be public. And that's about all I know

The main point of it was inciting a panic among remaining Big 12 teams that they would accept an offer of $18 million a year or something like that in media rights as members of the AAC.

ESPN can always and forever get bent.

why I theorize litigation was a legitimate possibility if ESPN do something to fix what they broke - namely giving us the TV contract they didn't want to pay us. probably the biggest reason why just about everything ESPN says about the Big 12 is slanderous or libelous, depending whether they say it on TV or post it on their website.

Do you know what solves all this? A Big 12 team needs to go out and win the whole damn thing. That will shut ESPN up for now. Then the Big 12 needs to follow that with a string of very solid performances in the CFP for a few years in a row. It's the only way it will ever change.
Wishful thinking, but I believe the best approach is to fix this at an institutional level.

When Texas killed partial qualifiers in the Big 12, I believe they systematically destroyed the Nebraska football dynasty as it existed. Tom Osborne saw the writing on the wall and quit a few years later. Later as AD, he moved Nebraska out of the Big 12 as he still harbored a vendetta with UT.

You can win a few games with good tactics (and maybe a championship every once in a while), but I think sustained success requires Big 12 teams getting better players, coaches, fair media coverage, and fair seeding in the playoff. ESPN is one of the main problems here today.

I think parity of NIL is going to affect the B1G and SEC more than they want, which is why they will lean on their media partners to carry water and talk about why Nick Saban's championships matter now to them as a conference instead of play on the field. The Big 12 needs to keep their **** together and win some games against them in the playoff and all of this gets a little bit easier. But it will be tough sledding if all you get is one Big 12 competing up against the P2 with seven or eight in. But ESPN knows this. Big 12 teams that get the opportunity, have to win games.
Winning solves many issues.

Yeah, having any Big12 school get attention and viewership is terrible for the Big12.
Texas dominated, decimated and nearly destroyed the Big12. 4 teams left because of their demands , then they left assuming the b12 would collapse without them.

And? What’s that have to do with Colorados viewership lol

Is it good to have Colorado dominate attention and viewership? How long until they start planning their 3rd realignment?
Michigan, Ohio state, and Penn State dominate attention and viewership and got the Big 10 the largest media deal in CFB.

So yes, to answer your question.

Heard Brett Yormark personally contacted ESPN regarding their coverage of the Big 12, but I haven't seen any reports about it. Can anyone provide more details regarding this?
How can we get that same number? Asking for a friend...
