Brent Metcalf Head Coach?

@CyCity you’ve been consistently in the “know” this spring…any hunches to when we get additional portal news to finish out our roster? Expected a few more post Metcalf hiring like Brayden Thompson to finish with a bang…
Our 125 lber should be announced in the next week or sooner.

I’m guessing (no insight) it is Smith from Rutgers. I like that pick up. Probably not an immediate AA threat, but solid and could still develop.

Wasn’t Mackall from Rutgers?
Agreed. 3 years of eligibility.

Not a ton of great wins but beat Spencer Moore, Diego Sotelo and Jore Volk.

Also had some pretty poor losses though too.

So its Smith and Sakamoto. Do we think Sakamoto is better than Grice? Could be a good battle there.

Grice won two matches at the NCAAs. Sakamoto is 0-3 in his career, including losses to a couple of mid-D1 backups last season.

Not a super tough question.
Agree, Grice is the guy at 133 with Pearson there for depth. I think it makes most sense for Rin to go down to 125 and challenge Ayden for the spot, may the best man win.

Did Grice widen the gap throughout the year? Pearson was right there in the wrestle offs. Almost had it won. Thought Pearson showed a lot of potential!

Pearson beat Grice in wrestleoffs. He redshirted this season, Grice is the depth, I think CP starts 133

Wrestle offs can often be deceptive due to familiarity.

Grice did what Grice did while Pearson went out and got smoked by a couple guys who went 0-2 at the NCAAs, and Nebraska’s backup.

Pearson beat him at the Cyclone Open. Very similar match as the wrestle-off. Then the staff decided to bump him up the rest of the year to back up AE when needed. Grice looked real good at the end of the year but I think 133 is Pearson’s if he has a healthy offseason.

Maybe you should look at results. I’m pretty sure all those matches were at 141. He was a 133-pounder being asked to wrestle up a weight what do you expect.
