Bowl Game Events

So they arn't having a pep rally the night before? That sux....Who's to blame on that? The Yankees? I can't believe I have to boo the Yankees on this one - On the Banks
Why is it the Yankees' fault? ISU can choose to have its own pep rally. In 2009 at the Insight bowl, ISU had a pep rally at that western place (can't remember what its called). I don't think the Insight bowl had any part of it (except the fact a few of the committee members were there). I imagine they aren't having one this year because there won't be nearly as many people there this year.

I am pretty sure it is because things are over the top expensive to secure a venue for a pep rally, at least that is the word I have gotten.

Doubtful on that. KState had a nice pep rally last year at The Roseland Ballroom and I'm sure we would have more people than them. I would have to figure its a $$ issue in reserving a spot. Oh well....hope to meet up with Cyclone fans the night before at one of the two sport bars mentioned!

Is there any sort of program at either of the ISU venues on the 29th? Are any ISU celebrities going to be present?

I'm thinking about stopping at both, as well as one being organized by some of the Rutgers guys on the ScarletNation.com site. It might be fun to wish them well (but not too much) and thank them in person for all the ideas and info they have provided us.

We are taking our boys 5 and 12. Tonic doesn't look kid friendly any thoughts on the other place, O'Lunneys? From their website it looks like we might be ok. I would have thought the Alumni Association could have put something together.

Did not even think of that. Not taking my kids this kids this year due to the cost, but yes, even the informal parties posted may not be very kid friendly.

Hard to understand how the AD/Alumni office could not find even an outdoor location to hold a rally. Charge $5/$10 bucks and cost should not have been an issue.

I remember we had to cancel the Boise rally because it was an outdoor location and is was pouring rain. But to not get the band, cheer squad, Jamie, and CPR at an event with the fans that are spending good money/effort to support the team is **** poor planning.

There is a pep rally. I'm not sure the details besides it is in Babe Ruth Plaza at 12:30.

Details are given on the Iowa State Bowl Central webpage. It is going to begin with a Spirit Walk and follow-through with a pep rally at Yankee Stadium on Friday.

It would be fun to have had something on Thursday night also. Maybe some of us can put together something that is more family friendly, such as at a Dave & Busters. Or maybe there is an ESPN Zone in NYC.

Empire State Building

Here is something we discussed a week ago that is cool. They are putting Iowa State colors on the east and west sides of the Empire State Building (with the west facing New Jersey!

BTW, they updated the ESB website. It now says the east and west sides will be red/yellow/red.

RUNYYFan, it looks like you'll primarily be able to see the south side from W 32nd St and 5th Ave. No offense, but I'm much more looking forward to getting shots of the east and west sides. Any idea where the best place to get one of those shots might be?
Totally understand.

blitz has it about right for a "perfect" shot. But from the ground, I'd suggest going to the corner of Broadway and W35th St., in front of what used to be a Conway's store (I can't remember what is there now). Macy's at Herald Square will be on the opposite corner, same side of the street. You should be able to get the west side of the ESB from there.

Remembering what I do about W35th from 5 Ave. eastward, I don't think there are too many vantage points, because of the buildings.

Hope this helps.
