Blum: 24 hours in Norman

And I got to miss it because my niece was getting married. In Canada. At least I was able to hang out in the car with my "sleeping" son and stream the end of the game over radio.

I think I told this before, but I was also at a wedding in Moline. Went in trailing after the first FG, thinking "At least it's not a shutout." Long catholic wedding... Coming out my brother asked me to check the score. I looked and it was a 7 point game. My brother says, "Iowa State is ahead!" I'm like, "Wut?" I didn't even NOTICE that! Heard the tie by OU on the way home then the go ahead TD to Lazard. Didn't get to hear the final 2:XX and just figured OU would tie and maybe go for 2 for the win. Couldn't hardly believe it when I was able to check the final score a few minutes later.

Then at the reception spent way too much time on my phone on CF. Good times!

Worked for the team all four years at ISU, Rhoads last two years and Campbell’s first two. Fortunate (or unfortunate the first three years) enough to go to all the games. That day, so far, is the best day of my life

I vividly remember driving a van full of relatives down to Norman to go to that game. When it was announced on the radio that Parks was not going to play, I literally tried to turn the van around and go back home, but my relatives wouldn't let me.

I spent that Friday night and Saturday morning on the OU campus and so many OU fans were condescending and treated me with sympathy for the butt kicking they knew we were about to experience.

And I remember screaming like a freaking loon in a silent stadium of 80,000 fans after we batted down OU's desperation 4th down pass to ice the game.

And I remember standing outside the locker room and posing for pictures with players who were so excited, they had no desire to get on the team bus.

Hope I'm wrong, but I doubt I'll ever experience that kind of elation again. Thank goodness my relatives didn't allow me turn the van around.

Seriously @brentblum. You did all that texting from the broadcast booth? Pretty cool looking back at it now.

Our newborn came home from the hospital just in time for kickoff. Sat and stared at our baby with the game on... as the game went along we started watching more intently with many "what the hell is going ons" being said. Will never forget that day.

Great column, Brent. It is the best ISU FB game I've attended in person.

Still remember listening to the post-game local radio show and the OU lead on the show screaming: "HOW IN THE HELL DO WE LOSE TO A TEAM LIKE IOWA STATE!!!". Thank goodness Teddy Lehman (IIRC) chimed in and said this wasn't the same ole ISU FB team and he ended up being right.

I was fortunate to attend that game in person. Lost my voice as I couldn't believe what unfolded on the field. Afterwards, I will attest to the fact that the OU fanbase was the nicest I've ever encountered. Calm, humble, quiet. Several fans walked out of their path, extended a hand and a congratulatory "great game, you all played well" -like statement. No audible what-ifs or complaining. I was blown away by the sincerity of their fan's reactions, almost more so than the victory I witnessed.
