If your going to do the crime, don't come to Dubuque,... or at least, stay off the streets.

From KCRG Article
The Dubuque Police Department will use a new Precision Policing Center (PPC) to analyze real-time data from the city’s approximately 1,300 surveillance cameras. “It gives us a quicker, eminent response, using a resource that’s very specific and will support everybody,” said Dubuque Police Chief Jeremy Jensen.
Welp, I guess public sex in Dubuque is off the table now.

Feels like I should put some tape over my laptop camera lens now. Worried "they" are probably recording it and commenting on how messy my hair is this morning in PHX.

Lady at work is on a 6 month grand jury.

Her main takeaway

Leave the phone at home if you go out criming. It puts a person directly at the scene of the event.
A couple years ago a few semi trailers full of pork were stolen from the processing plant in Ottumwa. It happened at a few other plants as well. Law enforcement checked for common cellphones at the 3 sites and caught them in Miami. I like it!

That had to be an inside job, according to the local paper they had all the correct paper work to just back up to a trailer, hook it up and drive it right through. I wonder how much a semi trailer load of meat would be worth?

Not exactly sure.
Litigation over what? You posted a picture of my license plate that’s literally on the outside of my vehicle for anyone to see?

(I know, I know, people sue for anything and no reason at all, but still … )
How fond would you be if someone said a car like this, shows a picture of your car with plate showing, was out throwing trash/urine bombs/ used condoms in people yards even though it wasn’t you and just a picture of your car and plate?

No issues, right?

So I've noticed these small black cameras with solar panels on the side of the road recently in north Polk County. There is one on NW 66th just west of the Des Moines river on the north side of the road, and then I saw one in Ankeny on NW State St by the sports complex and Goldfinch Sports. Anyone know what they are? I figure they can't be speed cameras because I think those require signs now. I was thinking either traffic monitoring of some sort or license plate trackers.
Just smear a little mud on part of the plate.

Why? Give them a good show.

"It's showtime, folks!"

I might be the only one who remembers this movie.

Not sure what that has to do with license plates getting blurred online. Of course I’d be mad about someone falsely accusing me of something and using a photo of my car to back it up - but that has nothing to do with the fact that license plates are publicly visible information and hundreds of strangers see it on the roads every single day. And while I could go after that person for harassment or something, there’s no law against a photo of my license plate being posted on the internet. There just isn’t.

You didn’t read what I posted though. You weren’t falsely accused in my example. They just said a car like this. That’s not an accusation, it just says be on the lookout.

Well, some people may read what I put the same way as you, not very well, see your car at the grocery store, on the street, etc and you get a few full Trojans hanging on your wipers.

How you responded is the exact reason people blur out the plates.

There's a really big misconception in this thread about privacy expectations while in public.

There's no expectation of "privacy" at a given point in time while in public.

There is an expectation to not be monitored and tracked 24/7. That would be profiling without a warrant.

The big problem I have with them is when the good guys suddenly become the bad guys...
