Rumors and news from around the Big 12 … | Out of Bounds

Number of reasons why it'd never happen, but, I guess as far as blogs go, at least this is affiliated with an actual newspaper. Interesting stuff, nonetheless. Still put the chance of things going this way at about negative 2%. Won't happen, but wonder where they got their info. Wasn't from an ISU site.

Shame on us? I think he is a good coach....got a raw deal at UK. I will take ANYONE over the poor coach we have now.

I really wouldn't be upset with this hire. The guy needs to get grounded again......at a place that respects basketball and has a great fan base. He could learn to love ISU and what we have in Hilton.

If ISU is going to get rid of McD, they need to bring someone with a name in. That way they can keep the players that ISU does have, we don't need a no name coach from some mid major that got lightening in bottle for 1 year.

Gillispie, Floyd, or _________ another name (that has won) would be fine with me.

Although A&M has had more recent hoops success than ISU, overall I would still consider this a step up program-wise for Gillespie. That said, I'd put very low odds on this happening.

Doesn't he have like 4 DUIs? After the Eustachy deal, I highly doubt he would even get consideration.

I would be curious if this is another "source" saying this or the same "source" that got the thread on HR started.

If you want Billy Gillispie I have to ask...are you familiar with the Wes Johnson saga?

Oh not only does he have the DUI's, he was caught hot tubbing with co eds. On a brighter note, at least he's not married.

Billy Clyde can coach, I don't think there is any doubt about that. But, there is a lot of baggage there. His sobriety, and his ability to maintain it, will determine what kind of opportunities he will get.

Yeah, this is probably going to be an issue...as it would be with another guy I saw mentioned...Andy Kennedy at Ole Miss (who has also had troubles with the law).

Having said that, so-called "morals clauses" are becoming very common in contracts these days...both for players (pros) and coaches.

3 or 4. Last I heard he was in rehab down here.

You posted my exact thoughts. I'd support it, but a womanizing, self-described workaholic with alcohol problems might not fly with a lot of the fan base. Still, if he could do it at UTEP and A&M, I'd have to think he could win here. Talk about your second-fiddle sports...I'd even say MBB is third-fiddle at A&M behind football and baseball. We'd be a nice compromise between the two extremes - afterthought at A&M and obsessiveness of Kentucky.

If this guy puts any stock in a coaching change rumor at this point he is not very familiar with a Jamie Pollard coching search. Nothing is as it appears.

I am in no way saying this would be a good or bad move. However, I do take offense to the writer saying, "Shame on the Cyclones" and referring to Gene Chizik as an example. He is basicly saying that no big name coach would ever want to coach at ISU for anything more than a quick stepping stone....ever heard of Johnny Orr, Neill Woelk?

The ISU fan support for basketball is reason enough for any coach to want to stay at ISU after having success. They have to achieve that success first, though.

There would probably be a clause in his contract if he were to get in trouble with the law for a DUI or anything like that, we could terminate his contract without paying him anything.

It would be a risk but a risk I would probably be willing to make.

Does anybody remember the schools that Wes Johnson was not granted a release to and who the coach was? JP and GG remember...
