Bill Fennelly

You didn’t notice he has had the same level of success throughout. READ
Then it doesn’t matter either way, so no difference to the original point that I am not gonna rehash.

You come off extremely emotional in your defense of Bill. After only making couple posts here, your 1st instinct was to attack by calling my posts morbid. It’s just weird unless you are attached to Bill in some manner.

Again, Bill will be fine. He doesn’t give a **** what a random poster on CyFan comments. Peace out.

I get sick of people saying we as fans don't have a right to criticize people making well above 6 figures who we think aren't doing their job. He gets paid to achieve more than he is imo. Perhaps Bill should go to a level where wins and losses don't matter if he can't handle it

That's doesn't mean we can't strive to be better. We've been doing this for almost 3 decades now. This program might have more potential than most we have. Its time to aim higher. Is there any reason it can't achieve even more success? Is it limited by anything other than a better coaching staff?

We all want more - just not sure why you think WBB should be able to do more than any other program here. They are like every other team here and have to do more with less.

I learned a lot in this post. I always thought Bill worked on the cheap and gave us the longevity discount. Nope, between salary and benefits, earning well over $1 million/ year. That doesn’t count Billy.

Point being, always thought we could never afford a new coach. We most certainly can. That bonus sure does does stick out there though doesn’t it?

Because it was all set up to do it 25 years ago. Top 5 national support and Iowa stunk. We got almost all good state of Iowa recruits that we wanted. Now, not so much. Our recruiting over the years has been spotty at best.

I don't see WBB being at a huge disadvantage compared to other teams in the conference. Theres nothing exciting about watching a team every year that isnt bad,but then again is not good. We need to at least try and do better. I like a more aggressive approach. Don't except mediocrity. The program has peaked and it's boring. Don't look at where Bill took the program from look where he's had it stuck at for 20 years now.

This is the type of thinking that got Iowa to hold on to Fran McCaffrey for so long.

We have almost double the attendance of the next school in the Big 12, why shouldn't we expect a special season sometimes. Bill might have to do it with less than TCU or Baylor, but he has more resources than most of the Big 12.

Why? He’s a coach. Period.

But to satisfy your morbid curiosity…
He had a winning percentage of 68% at Toledo
He has a winning percentage of 67% at Iowa State

Next…
Incorrect - try again. Geewago provided the correct winning percentages earlier. There’s no excuse for you to get it wrong unless you’re intentionally trying to mislead…

The bottom line is even if he was at one time a great coach he's out of his prime. He's not getting paid to just make the tourney. And yes he did build the program but sometimes people can be a victim of their own success. That's how sports works folks. Its a "what have you done for me lately" industry They get paid too much money to earn the right to finish on their own terms regardless of success. He's made millions from ISU over nearly 3 decades. He will be fine in retirement. What's sad is that he doesn't see the decline and how stagnant the program has become. Johnny finally realized it was best for him to go. Is this about Bill or ISU?

I think people are getting antsy because the talent of the last few years has been really good, and he has consistently under performed.

He will get a pass this year because of injuries, but he shouldn't
Okay then what explains about 18 of the last 20 years? If he doesn't have the talent thats on him also. And btw, I think you're probably right. Frustrating watching Iowa's rise and title game appearances. Their players looking like they have fun, etc .

What is frustrating is that we are mortgaging the future for the success of last year, this year, and next year. We will lose almost everyone after next year the way this roster is constructed. Knowing this makes last season and this a bitter pill to swallow. This was all set up for Bill to go out with a bang.

Jamie needs to ask for Bill retirement tomorrow morning. Keep it private until the week leading up to the final home game.

Let the new coach work to retain the core for their senior seasons. We all don't need to watch Bill ruin those girls' last year in college.

Thoughts on targeting NDSU coach Jory Collins?

Really improved that team since he took over!

Plus can you imagine a front court of Audi, Addy, and Avery Koenen

Agree. The next head coach is just as likely to be Theresa Becker as they are Bill Fennelly.
1) What a rude comment, considering Theresa Becker’s brother follows this website and has posted in the last several months.

2) I’m confident in our AD’s ability to hire a young vibrant female head coach who can make good use of ISU’s ample resources and outstanding fan support.

I feel bad for people who cite “grass isn’t always greener” rhetoric. If change is that traumatic for you, how do you make it out of bed in the morning?

Interesting post coming from the most rude person on this message board in regards to Fennelly.

I'll never forget when I was so excited to buy tickets to an away game and we got second row behind the team bench. I was taking my 10-year-old daughter at the time, and we were so excited to go to the game and be so close to a team and have the experience.

Boy, did I surely regret it about three minutes into the first quarter when Bill just started unloading F-bombs on the team when things weren't going well and at the officials. We ended up moving seats through the second half. :D

Rude to say the Teresa Becker years were bad?

Becker was 18-63 in her 3 years at Iowa State. To her credit she did bring in Grimm and Olson to the program for her last year.
