I have posted about this topic before too but I think TJ is probably a better coach today than he would have been if we just hired him when Fred left. He stayed for a year to transition from Fred to Prohm then was head coach at SDSU and UNLV before coming back and I bet those 2 stops allowed him to become a better head coach as a result. I'd rather hire someone that has already gone through the growing pains and mistakes that a 1st time head coach will have than be the school that has to weather that storm and hope that coach figures it out quickly. This is exactly why Billy should have found a HC job somewhere else first if he wanted to take over for his dad someday. If he does somehow still end up getting the job after Bill and fails it's going to be a stain on him and the program too.
Couple examples from our own experiences with FB. ISU was Gene Chizik's first time as a head coach and in his short time here he made a ton of mistakes. I remember taking the trip to Vegas in 2008 to watch us get beat by UNLV who wound up going 5-7 that season while we were 2-10. That was one of the most undisciplined games I have watched us play and a lot of that was because of poor coaching. Rhoads basically took most of that 2 win roster and won 7 including a bowl game the next year. Rhoads too was a first time HC and made plenty of mistakes over the years including a big one in his last game that ultimately got him fired. I get that FB and basketball are different sports and not apples to oranges but it's not like ISU is a mid-major program that we can't draw experienced HC candidates when a major sport has a job opening.
I think if BF decided he was done they would rework the language to honor the longevity bonus but have him exit earlier than July 1 - guessing that date is just because of when the contract expires - coaches contracts typically match the state's fiscal year. Also could announce the retirement as of the end of the year but go ahead and hire a replacement sooner.
Ultimately I think this is just a sad situation. Similar to the football team if this squad wasn’t so beat up we’d be winning these games. They are beat up and they are losing games they shouldn’t and looking bad in the process.

I’m pretty sure Bill would want Billy to take over, but Jamie’s been pretty consistent about hiring head coaches with head coaching experience. If Billy really wanted the job, he’d be wise to follow TJ’s example- go work under a different coach/system, get some head coaching experience at a mid major or P4 program then come back. I don’t see Jamie changing his position on that.

This would be a slam dunk hire but, is likely unrealistic. Allison is busy being a mom so that TJ can pour 200% of himself into the mens team!!
She has ONE year of JUCO coaching experience and we are critical of Billy's Resume?
He's consistent until he isn't. I mean this is also the guy who hired Fred Hoiberg despite having no real coaching experience at all, and TJ was at least on the short list in 2015, so its not like the lack of HC experience was a total disqualifier there.
The Steyers are a COMPLETELY different situation - Jamie makes a couple hundred dollars (guessing) for doing the games while Billy makes $200K+. If you recall there was a revolving door on the radio broadcasts before Jamie and Noah. It is FAR from a full time job for them.
Only way anyone on the current staff becomes head coach is if Bill retires mid season or right before the season. No way he does that......intentionally.
She's also shopping for those SMEDIUM polos to replace all the ones TJ rips when he flexes or crosses his arms!!
This is the first year for Pohlman without any Jennie B players and it's rough. Unless she has a highly successful season next year she is probably out. Johnston has been at SDSU for 30 years, probably a lifer.

Carly Thibault-DuDonis is from Omaha and was an assistant at Minnesota for 4 years so has experience in the Midwest.
Vic Shaffer at Mississippi State
Lisa Bluder at Iowa - prior to CC - had to feed students and often gave free / cheap tickets to UI employees
Carly Thibault-DuDonis is the Daughter of Mike Thibault. Long time Basketball Coach in the NBA, Old CBA and WNBA.
He was an assistant coach a big evaluator of talent with the Chicago Bulls. He was intrigal in taking Muchael Jordan with the 3rd pick.
Coached the Omaha Racers in the CBA, I worked in that organization in 1996, small office, he was a good coach.
Coached the Connecticut Sun and Washington Mystics in the WNBA for 20 years. Currently the Coach of the Belgian Womens National Team.
Assistant Coach in the NBA for the Lakers, Bulls and Bucks.
I belive his son is/was also a head coach.
The injury is excuse is legit when losing to top big 12 teams, but even with an injury or 2 we should be able to handle the Colorado's and Cincinatti's. That's the problem!!
The fact that Billy didnt look for a head job makes me think the deal is done. If he really wants the job, but JP insisted he get HC experience, he’d have done it. He knows it’s a great gig, and I don’t think he wants out of coaching when daddy retires, so why not cut your teeth and come back when he retires? Probably because he doesn’t have to.
Noah is very good. Jamie is not. I think wolf probably makes a good salary.
