I’m not sure where…Eh, I'm not a women's college basketball expert but I'm guessing there are plenty of examples of coaches that have reached greater heights at schools that have less institutional and fan support than Fennelly has had at ISU.

I have posted about this topic before too but I think TJ is probably a better coach today than he would have been if we just hired him when Fred left. He stayed for a year to transition from Fred to Prohm then was head coach at SDSU and UNLV before coming back and I bet those 2 stops allowed him to become a better head coach as a result. I'd rather hire someone that has already gone through the growing pains and mistakes that a 1st time head coach will have than be the school that has to weather that storm and hope that coach figures it out quickly. This is exactly why Billy should have found a HC job somewhere else first if he wanted to take over for his dad someday. If he does somehow still end up getting the job after Bill and fails it's going to be a stain on him and the program too.If Billy really wants the job he needs to go and coach for someone else for a few years. Maybe get a head coaching job also. He needs 5 years (give or take) away from his dad. The lack of recent outside experience should disqualify him from getting the job. Just like Mouser with football.
Damn, that's a poison pill contract clause seemingly designed to make a Billy hiring the only option. Wow, just wow. Can't believe they agreed to that. How would a new coach even try to put together a team in the interim as a "coach in waiting". This seems like a worse case scenario coming to fruition.
he has two really good assistant coaches during that run as well.My dad (RIP) had a lot of friends in media, and took a lot of mid-late-50s basketball photos in the Armory that you may have seen. One of those friends told us in the early 2000s that, among the media, Bill was thought of as a decent recruiter but not a very good coach. He predicted he'd never reach those heights again after that roster filtered through. At the time I thought he was nuts, but it's been pretty accurate.
I’m pretty sure Bill would want Billy to take over, but Jamie’s been pretty consistent about hiring head coaches with head coaching experience. If Billy really wanted the job, he’d be wise to follow TJ’s example- go work under a different coach/system, get some head coaching experience at a mid major or P4 program then come back. I don’t see Jamie changing his position on that.think he wants Billy to be the heir apparent?
think Jamie will go for that? (imo no)
This works better in a lot of marriages.I would think that would be awfully tough on marriage and family. With the travel by both teams, they'd hardly see each other.
This would be a slam dunk hire but, is likely unrealistic. Allison is busy being a mom so that TJ can pour 200% of himself into the mens team!!Alison Lacey Otzelberger.
She has more head coaching experience than any of our current assistant coaches. Although her MCC team finished 11-20 in her only season.

That popped in my mind last night. He'll never get "fired", he would be allowed to "retire" and part of me thinks he would/has been continuing to coach because of course he loves it, but also it keeps his kid, along with Jodi & Jamie Steyer, employed.

This is the first year for Pohlman without any Jennie B players and it's rough. Unless she has a highly successful season next year she is probably out. Johnston has been at SDSU for 30 years, probably a lifer.Ezell is the only former player I am aware of who might be considered to replace Bill. This is her 4th season at Wyoming and they are currently 4-12 overall, 1-6 in conference play. In the prior 3 seasons, her teams finished 2nd, 3rd and 2nd in the MWC without an NCAA tourney appearance.
JP should and probably will cast a wide net beyond Ezell for Bill's replacement (e.g. Alison Pohlman, Aaron Johnston) but I am assuming Bill will lobby hard for Ezell and Billy (highly unlikely he gets the job IMO with no HC experience).
Vic Shaffer at Mississippi StateI’m not sure where…
Carly Thibault-DuDonis is the Daughter of Mike Thibault. Long time Basketball Coach in the NBA, Old CBA and WNBA.This is the first year for Pohlman without any Jennie B players and it's rough. Unless she has a highly successful season next year she is probably out. Johnston has been at SDSU for 30 years, probably a lifer.
Top 2 candidates if still available should be Fairfields Carly Thibault-DuDonis and Greenbays Kayla Karius
Carly Thibault-DuDonis is from Omaha and was an assistant at Minnesota for 4 years so has experience in the Midwest.
Ultimately I think this is just a sad situation. Similar to the football team if this squad wasn’t so beat up we’d be winning these games. They are beat up and they are losing games they shouldn’t and looking bad in the process.
I just feel bad for the players. Going from top 10 and on top of the world to limping along. Has to be absolutely demoralizing.
The fact that Billy didnt look for a head job makes me think the deal is done. If he really wants the job, but JP insisted he get HC experience, he’d have done it. He knows it’s a great gig, and I don’t think he wants out of coaching when daddy retires, so why not cut your teeth and come back when he retires? Probably because he doesn’t have to.I have posted about this topic before too but I think TJ is probably a better coach today than he would have been if we just hired him when Fred left. Couple examples from our own experiences with FB. ISU was Gene Chizik's first time as a head coach and in his short time here he made a ton of mistakes. I remember taking the trip to Vegas in 2008 to watch us get beat by UNLV who wound up going 5-7 that season while we were 2-10. That was one of the most undisciplined games I have watched us play and a lot of that was because of poor coaching. Rhoads basically took most of that 2 win roster and won 7 including a bowl game the next year. Rhoads too was a first time HC and made plenty of mistakes over the years including a big one in his last game that ultimately got him fired. I get that FB and basketball are different sports and not apples to oranges but it's not like ISU is a mid-major program that we can't draw experienced HC candidates when a major sport has a job opening.
Noah is very good. Jamie is not. I think wolf probably makes a good salary. The Steyers are a COMPLETELY different situation - Jamie makes a couple hundred dollars (guessing) for doing the games while Billy makes $200K+. If you recall there was a revolving door on the radio broadcasts before Jamie and Noah. It is FAR from a full time job for them.
