Wow that's wild. I'll admit I didn't look up the numbers. I'm not shocked we lose money but I am surprised it's that bad. If we're doing this bad with top 10 attendance numbers, how is any school outside the top 2 or 3 not bleeding money. Or maybe they are?Women’s basketball is by far our biggest “money loser” among all sports.
It loses over $4 mil every year. Last year it lost $4.5 million.

No this is the same as at almost all of the P4 schools.Wow that's wild. I'll admit I didn't look up the numbers. I'm not shocked we lose money but I am surprised it's that bad. I saw Alabama’s breakdown and surprisingly WBB was the biggest loser for them too. They lost around the same amount we do ~$4.5million.Wow that's wild. I'll admit I didn't look up the numbers. It makes me ask why is the sport so expensive? It’s only 12-15 players with not a lot of special equipment needed to play.No this is the same almost all of the P4 schools.
For instance: Iowa women’s bb was $3.7 mil in the red last year - even with their huge ave attendance.
Especially when the confrence footprints are so large. Big 12 yiu could have to travel to Flirida, West Virginia, Arizona or Colorado, Big 10 is even worse, New Jersey to California .I saw Alabama’s breakdown and surprisingly WBB was the biggest loser for them too. Ticket money doesn’t come close to funding the cost.
The Nikki Moody lawsuit was b*llsh*t. She was pissed that she didn't make the wnba and came back to try to score some easy money. If I remember right, part of her claim was something about not being showcased enough or something like that, hell she was a multi yr starting point guard. On a guard oriented team and had the school assist record at the time. Her problem was she was too small for the wnba.Hope you aren't one of the same critics that didn't like it when he would get red face and start screaming directly at players when they messed up too because there has been plenty said about that as well. The Nikki Moody lawsuit had some people here saying Bill was too harsh with his demeanor and such. If you would go back and watch how he handled things in the early 2000's compared to today his courtside demeanor is night and day as I remember him screaming and very animated at times earlier in his career. It's such a fine line these days because if athletes think a coach is being too hard on them they just transfer out.
I'm not saying Bill isn't at fault in some aspects to how this team has performed the past 2 years, the coaching staff carries responsibility for that as do the players too. These are D1 athletes playing in a power conference, so they also carry some of the blame for the performance. It is going to take a combination of both some adjustments by the coaching staff and the players executing better if they are ever going to reach their potential that we know they are capable of.
If he would agree to taking his full contract and retire this March "for the good of the program" I could see us retaining the big 3 if the search is done quickly.Easy fir internet fans to say let Bill go now, but not so easy for the AD. 30 year head coach at ISU, winningest ISU head coach, winningest Big 12 head coach, currently top 15 in all time wins, I think currently 3rd active in wins. Easy for us to say let him go, doing that in reality is a bit more difficult.
Could be possible. It is not just Bill though. He has a longtime coaching staff that would also need to be taken care of, bought out of contracts. Also he would have to agree to that, maybe there will be talks after the tourney who knows, but I do not see Bill stepping down. Could be wrong who knows. I would also say the replacement/hire would have to impress to keep the nucleus of the current Roster. If he would agree to taking his full contract and retire this March "for the good of the program" I could see us retaining the big 3 if the search is done quickly.
I agree on the difficulty. However, Jamie also needs to weigh history vs. future, and the age of the average season ticket holder. Very few people in our section are younger than we are. And even though generally speaking older folks have more disposable income, I think he needs to weigh the “net loss income” of now, to the potential income of the future.Easy fir internet fans to say let Bill go now, but not so easy for the AD. 30 year head coach at ISU, winningest ISU head coach, winningest Big 12 head coach, currently top 15 in all time wins, I think currently 3rd active in wins. Unintentional - I used Google AI and didn’t look closely at the output - I knew Harry P only had a few conference championships, so bad on me. A quick look at Wiki shows 3 regular season Big East titles (2 shared) and three Big East Tournament championships. I was purposely looking for someone with a resume similar to CBF’s - that was the whole point - we’ll be fine when Bill moves on, and possibly better out of the gate - it’s a brave new world!!!Facts matter, he's does not have 17 Big East titles. I think he had 2 or 3 back before Geno got rolling. He has 17 Big 5 coach of the year, that is Philly based. Villanova, Drexel, Temple, LaSalle and Penn. His resume very much runs to look like Bill's, great coaching over a a long time, built a program. You seem to hate Bill so why use an almost exact type of career coach as your example . The 17 Big East titles was a great add but a very false one.
Your idea to bring in a former player to steady a new ship might be a great idea. We have a few out there, Heather Ezell the most qualified probably, Emily Durr has been a coach at Illinois and Emily Ryan now here, just not sure our list is very big to bring in a past player to take over. You also have Alliso Lacey but I would guess that would not happen. Really curious dies anyone else have a list of past players coaching college ball right now in any way?
I am 53, long time Women's season ticket holders. I am not sure where that puts me on the age list in Hilton for Women's Basketball. This is what I will say. Women's Vasjetball is a older person crowd with very young families mixed on. Families can still afford to go to these games. I was at the Drake/Illinois St game in Des Moines last night supporting Jayden Pratt from Anjeny Centennial who places fir the Red Birds. Draje's Women's crowd is the same mix as ours older couples, and young families. Look at games on TV it is the sane everywhere, changing the coach is not going to change the fan demographic much at Iowa State.I agree on the difficulty. He took 2 teams to Elite 8 games. I think he's been a great coach. But 31 years...I think it's time for new direction and fresh ideas. He’s only a legend because nobody else ever wanted him and he never left. Mediocre longevity does not equal being a good coach.
No worries. I actually agree we will be fine, we just have to wait. Would be interested to think if any firmer ISU player would be remotely qualified to take over.....Unintentional - I used Google AI and didn’t look closely at the output - I knew Harry P only had a few conference championships, so bad on me. Worked well for Syracuse men's basketball!Easy fir internet fans to say let Bill go now, but not so easy for the AD. 30 year head coach at ISU, winningest ISU head coach, winningest Big 12 head coach, currently top 15 in all time wins, I think currently 3rd active in wins.
