The only public knowledge I've seen is local reporters blindly speculating to generate page clicks. Lazard, or any athlete for that matter, can just continue ignoring/laughing at such speculation.
Why shouldn't he talk about it?

I hope you aren't serious. If you are, take your computer and Chuck it out a second story window. It might have been the idea of the athletic department/football staff to generate a little publicity buzz. AL might not have been behind it.
This was really a "non" announcement IMO. There was nothing to announce. Absolutely nobody thought he was going pro, so you don't have to announce you're staying in that case.
I love Lazard, but this looked a little arrogant on his part IMO. No big deal obviously, but it would have been better if he didn't announce anything. And then if the media ever did ask him if he was staying, he could say "of course I'm staying, why wouldn't I?". That would look a lot better.
I'll be that guy...why on earth do student athletes make public announcements that they are staying in school?
Professional aspirations and talent or not, attending a university for 4 years (5 with a redshirt) and working towards a degree while exhausting your 4 years of athletic eligibility is the stated purpose and presumed intent of being an athlete on scholarship.
Keep working hard, and feel free to let the public know only if/when you decide to choose an alternate course for your college career (transferring, early draft entry, etc...).
Forget get it..With his speed you can put a linebacker on him in the NFL and he won't be bullying anyone. Lazard's either going to have to do some serious speed training or what I'd be thinking to use him as in the NFL. Bulk him up a little and make him a tight end. He'd be a nightmare... I'd love to see CMC do it next season.Lazard doesn't have great speed, neither 40 time or "football speed" but decent speed and a 6'5 220lb frame can lessen the need for great speed. Lazard's hurdles for the NFL are going to be consistency and learning to use that huge frame to bully defenders. I think we saw him make big strides in both of those areas as the year went on, he just needs to keep proving he can be a dominant, game changing type of WR without having top end speed.

Against college DB's..You don't see many slow NFL wide receivers regardless of their size. Speed kills and there are a lot of big fast players in the NFL. Do I think Lazard is going to play in the NFL?..Hell yes!.. Great strength, size, hands, maturity, character...I just think he'd be an elite tight end where his speed may hold him back at WR. Can you imagine Lazard at 235 working the short and middle routes with Park's throwing accuracy?..He's faster than Anquan Boldin. He has great twitch, like elite level which is why he creates so much separation
Huh??..am I missing something??..Jason Witten is a tight end. Thanks for making my point.Thats what they said about Jason Witten too..... You don't have to have elite speed to be a great receiver in the NFL especially with the quantity of 2 deep zone played today. I do think that another year like this year - and obviously he has to view his chances with Park starting from the beginning of the year that his numbers would be even higher. I think he stands a great chance to improve into the third maybe second round pick with a big year. Not to mention, he probably looks at the chances that he could get a chance to play in a bowl game next year, senior bowl etc.

Boldin is only 6'1" and has running back speed. Apples to oranges on any comparison between the two players. Boldin's more compact and makes his cuts like a running back...different type of reciever completely. He's also freaking 36 years old and if I were looking to enter the NFL I certainly wouldn't want to be comparing my 40 times to 36 year olds. That said...I couldn't be more excited about Lazard's return. I'm from Indianola so seeing anyone break all of Blythe's records normally wouldn't excite me too much, but look forward to seeing Lazard do it.Is Anquan Boldin slow?

Seriously do you not know the difference between 6'1-220 and 6'-5"-220? Boldin's longest reception all season is for 29 yards. He works the short routes because he can cut on a dime, low center, powerful. That's not Lazard's game at all so bad comparison. You're also throwing a lot of other tangibles like experience out the window by making any comparison soSo Lazard is bigger than Boldin and faster

How's that?..What NFL games have you been watching? Most pro outside linebackers can run with Lazard. If he's no threat to burn anyone he's going to get stuffed at the line a lot. It's very hard to add speed, but strength and size is not which Lazard has plenty of. I'm not sure where I ever said and now have repeated, but I believe Allen Lazard will play in the NFL. I just think with his god given tools he could become an all pro tight end. Not even sure where the knock is there. Tight end is a tougher position to field than wide reciever any day. You don't see teams using them much because it's hard to find guys with the combination of physical tools to play the position. I can see Lazard being used like Tony Gonzales who didn't have blazing speed. You just contradicted yourself and probably don't even know it.
He's not fast enough to outrun a linebacker, but you want him to bulk up (which would make him slower)and switch to TE, where he will get guarded by linebackers.....Okie.
