Big 12 Buzz: A Texas Tech Dud

I like the idea of playing more games on campus. This is just drawn out to make money but the regular season ended in Nov and the Championship game is pushing 2 months since then.
Get rid of the conf championship games, play the 1st and 2nd rounds on campus, have the semis first part of bowl week and the Championship on New years day or that next weekend. Keep it within the normal college FB season and we'll probably have better quality games.

I was the number one koolaid drinker for Texas Tech and thought they had a great chance to win it all. What a dreadful performance. Looked like those Iowa teams that had a good defense but were ridiculously inept offensively. Tech really made our conference look like ****.

Totally agree. Of course the SEC and B10 do NOT want this.

The final score was ugly. And TT offense was non-existent.

But not like Oregon's offense rolled. Oregon scored 17 points on 2 TT turnovers resulting in short Duck drives and TT going for it on 4th down at their own 20 late in the game.

It was touched on by a poster above and Dan Lanning has been saying it every chance he gets:
  1. The first & second round games need to be on campus. Stop pandering to the historical bowl locations. Lanning thanked the Orange Bowl organizing committee, but said his players were either practicing or in their hotel rooms. These are not bowls.
  2. The season needs to end by Jan 1. Get rid of the 3+ week layoffs.

It would be the smart move. I'm not 100% sure it would make the games all that much better though honestly. I think the discrepancy among programs in terms of NIL funds is a major issue. I'm not sure NIL has made much of a difference in how many teams can realistically win the natty, but I do think it has included some in the conversation while kicking others out. College football has about 5-6 teams yearly that have a chance to win it all and it's been that way for a while regardless of the system. Put a salary cap type thing in place somehow where you can get that number to 10-15 and the product would be pure gold. Even baseball has made some efforts to improve parity even though they don't have a salary cap.making teams that go over x amount pay into a fund that kicks back to smaller market teams etc.. I don't think most of us who love college football are oblivious to the lack of parity when it comes to championship contenders a but I do think many don't realize how top heavy it is. It might be worse than any sport actually.

I’m still laughing having watched the “best team money can buy” fall flat on their collective butts. Doesn’t help the Big 12, but they are just a bunch of mercs anyway.
