Bielema Fired

Mark SchlabachESPN Senior Writer

You can argue that Bret Bielema didn't win enough games as Arkansas' football coach, but unless a coach has committed NCAA violations or grossly embarrassed the university with his conduct, no one deserves to be fired while walking off the field after the regular-season finale. Yes, Bielema will walk away with millions of dollars in a buyout, but other coaches are going to think long and hard about the direction of Arkansas' athletics department before taking the job.

Yeah, there's no reason at all they couldnt've waited an hour or two, finished the usual postgame activities, and then had a meeting in the AD offices.

No surprise he got fired, but ****** way to go about it.

What does the interim coach of a team that played its last regular season game, isn't going to a bowl game and will most likely hire a new coach within 2 weeks do?
Well he made it from DB coach to DC in a year, last coach that left ISU after sucking won a natty. I just have no hard feelings with Paul, don't expect anything to come from it but always wish him the best.

He's evidently never meet Bret Bielema. :)

Let's be honest, Arkansas and all other SEC teams looking for coaching miracles are pretty much kidding themselves. There are no guarantees in coaching, especially when your expectations are 10+ wins and a BCS birth...or a conference championship.

And these football crazy schools have fan bases that are completely out of control. Hell, the UT board has a 'Fire Tom Herman' thread that started months ago.

The other reality they don't want to admit is this...the rules have changed. Everyone's on TV every week. Everyone has nice facilities. Everyone has scholarship limits. It's harder to cheat as social media and the internet have made it hard to get away with it.

These schools are chasing a reality that is long been unachievable.

Paul was a successful SEC D coordinator at AU. He did a decent job at ISU as HC...a job that no one expects success at.

I'm sure he's learned something from his time at AR and from his mistakes at Iowa State.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him end up as a HC somewhere.

This. In the "Rhoads is interim HC at Arkansas" thread, people are bagging on Rhoads like crazy. Rhoads worked his ass off at ISU and passed on other Power 5 jobs to remain at ISU hence why JP gave him a longer leash than most programs would. Unfortunately it didn't work out but CPR is still a great man and ended a few of ISU's cruxes that CMC is now completing.

If you believe Campbell’s line about coming to ames and falling in love its the atmosphere you’ve got to give rhoads some credit. The atmosphere was **** before he was coach.

I know I wouldn't have wanted to have Arkansas's schedule this year....Losing to Missouri was bad though.

Oh Bielema completely deserves it. Should they have done it is the issue.

Bart succeeded in making them big and physical in a year but the rest lagged behind or didn't show up at all.

You still need someone to run the day to day football stuff. Just because the season is over doesn't mean there is no work to do.

Recruit. Plus the players are still doing workouts. He will be doing all the administrative stuff a head coach does.

Speaking of gross...just look at that dude. Him and Mangino should exchange towel techniques.

Arkansas is doing a great job of creating the working conditions and culture that a young, up-and-coming coach would want to come into and work under, aren't they?

No hard feelings here either. Paul worked his ass off here. I'm simply referring to an interim label that may last days.
