I did a quick stat search after Williams and Blum listed the conference QB rankings in Monday’s pod. Becht is ranked 8th IIRC and Fifita is ranked 2nd. Both are redshirt sophomores, both 1 full year starting, both won offensive freshman of the year in their conferences.

A quick comparison of the two:

So what exactly am I missing here?

Fifita is incredibly dynamic. That’s going to play more for meaningless rankings. It’s kind of like a Kyler Murray vs Brock Purdy thing.

Fifita's completion percentage was much higher, had more TDs and fewer interceptions. He is Top 10 QBR while Rocco is outside the Top 35.

Looking purely at stats, it's pretty clear Fifita should be ranked higher than Rocco currently.

Their guy's QBR: 83.8
Our guy's QBR: 69.1

Us: HOW COULD THEY POSSIBLY RANK THAT SCRUB HIGHER THAN OUR GUY?!?!?!?!?

For real, though. All of the stats you just shared seem to make it really clear Fifita should be ranked a fair amount higher.

I love Rocco and really happy he's our QB, but Fifita is really good. I have no qualms with him being ranked higher than Rocco going into the season based off last years results.

As has been pointed out his rushing stats show none of that. It’s like you picked a random buzzword and said “post it”.

Did anyone point out that I didn't say he was a "dynamic runner?" Maybe the Kyler Murray comp was bad there because people took the rushing aspect which isn't what I intended.

Fifita is very good. That said, Rocco is every bit the player he is. I'm not just going to ignore what Fifita had around him in comparison. 1st round OT Jordan Morgan, 4th round WR Jacob Cowing, 6th round TE Tanner McLachlan, then Tetairoa McMillan who's going to be a 1st round WR.

I like our guy.

Hard to compare quarterbacks. Both have different recievers and different lines. If I was drafting college quarterbacks I would take the Arizona kid first. That said Rocco has a ton of potential and I am glad he is our quarterback.

I don't care that he's ranked higher, I'm just trying to wrap my head around him being ranked 6 spots higher than Rocco given how similar they appear to be. I didn't watch any Arizona football last year so I'm trying to figure out what the stats are showing that make Fifita this special

72 vs 62 completion percentage is a huge difference, particularly when they have nearly identical yards per attempt.

It’s like the difference between Brock Purdy (69%) and Zach Wilson (60%).

Obviously I’m not saying that Rocco is Zach Wilson, I’m just saying, when it comes to preseason rankings, there is no problem with the Arizona kid being higher ranked. The stats are NOT almost identical.

Wouldn't that mean Rocco gets more yards per completion? Meaning his attempts are further down field on average?
