Morningstar and possibly Telford.Who was shaking dressers hand at the end? I saw someone and wasn’t sure? Was it the radio guys?

He'd be the creepy drunk in some population 1500 town, working on his 14th different construction job, blind hammered 5 nights a week, starting fights, creeping on women, picking up the occasional DUI and trying to get out of it by talking about how he went to state 40 years ago.Every time I see Brands I just think it’s fortunate for him theres this niche career for wack jobs like him. Because I can’t see him functioning in normal society.
I do understand the mechanics I was more curious about the strategy. Don't see a huge strategic advantage to it but didn't end up mattering so I'm happy.Teams couldn't agree where to start so went to coin flip. We won and got the choice. Gave us the opportunity to start and finish with the 2 matches we were most comfortable with. Very well played by Dresser and Co
Starting there means we start and end the dual with our two best, experienced wrestlers. Similar in track for a relay, having your best runners in an event start and anchor.I do understand the mechanics I was more curious about the strategy. Haven't watch wrestling since "Take down Brown", but that whole 'brick' strategy sounded like a genius move. BTW, if any of you know what "Take down Brown' refers to, let me know. I'd love to know what he's up to.I do understand the mechanics I was more curious about the strategy. Don't see a huge strategic advantage to it but didn't end up mattering so I'm happy.
Normally in wrestling it’s just more related to bumping or giving guys with a rough weight cut more time to recover from weight ins is why it seemed odd to me. Glad we didn’t feel the need to give frost that help as he was the one I was worried about. Bodes very well for the rest of his season.Starting there means we start and end the dual with our two best, experienced wrestlers. I'm going
I'm buzzinnnnggggggg. I needed him to know hahahha
I’m not sure if that was actually an attempt for a breather or not like the tv and hawk radio guys seemed to think. There was actually a very blatant locked hands that somehow the refs didn’t catch and Kennedy was just as gassed as gaitan but can’t complain about the outcome.Haven't watch wrestling since "Take down Brown", but that whole 'brick' strategy sounded like a genius move. I have a feeling that the coaches are now making a difference. Dresser is not a spring chicken, but he comes across more as that uncle that you like chatting with and flipping crap to. Now you get Tom Brands, you get a guy who seems he just got hit across the head with a 2x4. He comes across as Billy Madison playing dodgeball. I haven’t heard any wrestlers that Have left or graduated attack Dresser but you hear it a lot about Brands.I haven't read through this entire thread, but has anyone talked about how much more $$ Iowa has invested in it's wrestling roster than we do? I'd like to know that difference.
It just amazes me how much more ISU gets out of their $$ than Iowa does.... in all sports.
I hope they keep the Brands. It took Oklahoma State awhile to finally know John Smiths style was out of touch. At least John was a nice guy.Gary Barta, Brian Ferentz, Fran McCaffrey, change just takes time.
Brands always talks and preaches that they need to be aggressive and get takedowns.... but they haven't wrestled like that in quite a while now. What is the disconnect? Why don't his wrestlers wrestle how he claims they should be?I hope they keep the Brands. It took Oklahoma State awhile to finally know John Smiths style was out of touch. I think there are two primary reasons:Brands always talks and preaches that they need to be aggressive and get takedowns.... but they haven't wrestled like that in quite a while now. What is the disconnect? Why don't his wrestlers wrestle how he claims they should be?
Even their big money, prized possession who won didn’t even get a takedown.I haven't read through this entire thread, but has anyone talked about how much more $$ Iowa has invested in it's wrestling roster than we do? I'd like to know that difference.

Caliendo is the exception to the rule but this is spot on.I think there are two primary reasons:
1. Pressure - a lot of the Iowa guys wrestle right. They are afraid to lose. When you look at Cael, he preaches that the matches don’t matter. Winning and losing doesn’t matter. Control your attitude and effort. This approach allows his guys to wrestle more freely. This is the exact opposite of “win you live, lose you die” mentality. If you really think a wrestling match is life or death, your going to be extremely cautious and nervous.
2. The other is technique. I think Iowa is often getting beat in the scrambles which is where most d1 wrestling happens. I don’t think their coaches spend a lot of time teaching things like far ankle scrambles, nor do I think they do the types of practice plans that develop those skills (such as play wrestling). Being scared of scramble positions also makes one hesitant to engage.
Agree with all of this. I also think in the portal era, Brands is having a hard time getting consistency in his transfers. As I look from a distance, he is having difficulty recruiting the right transfers for his program. Could be wrong, but Dresser is doing a much better job of this.I think there are two primary reasons:
