I have always followed USA Today when they publish assistant coaches salaries. For years, Iowa State always had some of the lowest in P5 football, but we are now extremely competitive.

Manning made 350k his first year and makes 900k now.

Heacock doubled his salary from 454k to 900k

Even position coaches are making 400k+: Veidt, Gordon, and McDonald.

In addition to paying Campbell, we might have to throw another $2 million a year to the assistant pool to stay on pace with other programs; pandemic or not.

Didn’t Campbell forgive an increase to his contract so that it could be used for assistant pay one year? I want to say it was like two years ago. But that’s probably why they got much higher.

This makes a lot of sense. Asst coaches can make or break a program. Better parity of pay w/ HCs should work better for everyone.

I mean, aren’t we also talking like 15, 20 year? There’s been a coaching salary explosion in college football, but it’s only been this big for probably 10-15 years.

IIRC, with the pandemic cuts to the athletic department, Campbell covered the pay decreases to his staff. I believe he also took a smaller increase in a previous year to add more to his assistant pool.
