Are you a beer snob?

I will say their is a market for both domestics and craft brews, and they are both thriving. I see bars that sell 70% domestics and thrive due to the blue collar, get-off-work-go-to-bar clientele, and I see bars that sell MAYBE 1 domestic and have a far more medium class, office job clientele. It's funny to see the difference and its especially funny to see one of the regulars from one of the places walk into the OTHER place. :D

Good beer on a normal night, for the actual taste and increased alcohol content. Love me some thick beer or wheat beer of all kinds. Bud light is great for boating/tailgating/fishing, that sort of thing. But if I am at the bar or just home having a couple, usually I'd prefer a good beer to a watered down pilsner.

My favorite beer is the open one in front of me.

I do not have very discriminating tastes when it comes to beer, but some of the Craft beers out there that people drink thinking they are drinking the next big thing seem to taste like a horse ****** in their glass.

But man, when I'm having a burger or a steak, give me a nice stout or wheat beer and I'm a happy camper.

That said, I have no problem drinking domestics, and do so on a regular basis. Sometimes I just prefer a dollar menu cheeseburger to a filet mignon. It irritates me when other people who appreciate craft beer look down on people for drinking domestics or complain about beer selection.

I guess the answer to the question depends on how one defines beer snob. I drink craft beer and prefer it to domestics by a significant margin. I think it is better beer. I do not think less of people who dont like it, and I drink domestics on a fairly regular basis.

Likewise, I contend that someone who insists on drinking strictly domestics, without even trying other beers, is as much if not more of a beer snob than the person who appreciates craft beer. If you're "a Busch Light guy" and refuse to drink anything else... well, then, you're a beer snob.

To me, having honed by beer drinking skills on domestic beers, domestic beer is beer. Beer with fruit flavoring isn't beer. Beer that tastes like coffee isn't beer. If I want a drink that tastes like fruit, I'll have some OJ. If I want a drink that tastes like coffee, I'll have some coffee. If I want something that tastes like beer I will have a beer.

What about beer with hops flavor? Because you sir are drinking none of that.

I love craft beer, especially IPAs. I can talk about beer in a manner that sounds pretentious. I love to try new styles of beer, visit breweries, etc. When I'm out of town, I look for beer I can't get at home to bring back. I dont consider anything by the Big 3 to be "good" beer.

Has anybody had Big Wood beers from the white bear lake area in Minnesota? Is pretty new. They have a 9.8% called big axe that is delicious. Might be my new favorite.

I really, really dislike IPA's. But I also am not a fan of just ale's in general. To contradict that though, I drank a lot of Killians tonight off tap that was amazing.

No I'm not a beer snob at all. I do like and appreciate quality, so usually try to start my night out with a nice craft beer or 2, but after that my taste buds are shot, so I usually switch to a nice cheap American Pils(Busch lite normally). It always blows my mind when I go back to ISU and see how many of the expensive craft beers college kids are consuming. Back in the day when we were at school we always went for value. You could buy a pitcher of good beer at Cy's and feed 3 or 4 guys for what they're paying for 1 beer now. Guess kids just have more money now.:twitcy:

People like what they like and that is fine. I have found though that most people that only drink, say... Busch Light, once they give some craft brews a chance usually when they do they start to like it and get into the real world of beer.

I will roll my eyes when people say they "hate beer". Not all beer is the same. It's like whiskey. There are so many out there. Jack tastes nothing like Dewer's which tastes nothing like Jameson, which tastes nothing like Black Velvet , which tastes nothing like Templeton Rye. Too much of a variety to lump them all together. Or they're just close minded, which, like I say, that's fine too.

Black Velvet makes my soul hurt.
