I’ve had Sprint my entire life and don’t plan on switching, mainly because I was grandfathered in with unlimited 4G data for cheap. The coverage is fine, as long as you’re near a city or Interstate. If you get out in the country, you’re SOL. So if you live in BFE, don’t get Sprint.

I’ve never had a problem with customer service or billing or anything.

Not true. I drop calls in Dallas all the time. Same issue with texts coming it hours later that has been mentioned too. Cant stream music because constantly buffering. Same went for KC when I lived there, which is nuts sine thats their HQ.

I don’t know how you guys have issues with Sprints coverage. Don’t go rural a ton but in my experience Sprint is no worse than others. Usually it works infinitely better than others during high volume times such as Iowa State games. At work others have issues getting calls but mine works most of the time.

I have verizon. I have ~$45 for 5gb of data after company discount and autopay discount.

In the end, you get what you pay for in Iowa when it comes to coverage.

Had T-Mobile for 10 years. No coverage issues where I go. I pay $70 a moth total for two phones, unlimited everything. They have a 55 plus plan that cut my normal bill in half.

If you aren't married to getting an iphone, I can recommend going with project fi from google: https://fi.google.com/about/

It automatically switches between t-mobile, sprint, and US cellular based on signal strength. For 1 line its $20 plus $10 per gb up to 6 gb, data is free after that (so semi-unlimited). International data is charged at the same $ per gb.

The only drawback is that you have t use one of their approved phones (pixel, pixel 2)

I use this to. I am happy with it. the only issue I have is tha tmy house is located in a weird spot. Basically I am on the verge of all cell towers so my calls would switch from one service to another, sometimes dropping calls. I forced it to be only on the sprint network and its worked well. I live in Kansas City too.

I have never paid for one of the big services. When I graduated form college, I got a plan with virgin mobile. Last year, I made the switch to Project Fi. I am not a heavy data user, so Project Fi works great for me. I use probably between 1-1.5 gigs of data a month and spend less than 35 month.

How do you like the phone? I have galaxy with Verizon and I have been thinking about switching as soon as my contracts up.

If you live in Iowa, anything outside of Verizon or US Cellular sucks. US Cellular sucks if you go anywhere outside of Iowa.

That’s pretty much it.

My wife and I have chased our Air Force son all over the south and east coast and have had absolutely no problems with US Cellular. We also have no problems in Kansas, Nebraska, or South Dakota.

The pixel 2 is great, though I would prefer it had a headphone jack, that might be a deal breaker for some people. My parents use the pixel XL with fi and really seem to like them.

This link contains a crowd sourced coverage map.

Uncheck the 2g/3g box (unless you don't mind painfully slow download speeds) and then chose your area and carrier. The differences between the carriers in any given location become pretty obvious.

You can also go to their home page and download the app if you want your phone to contribute to their data.

Switched from Sprint a few months ago. I will never do business with them again. The billing has been a train wreck. I still get bills from them on a service that was already cut.

Sprint is one of my all time worst companies to deal with. A back of dicks with spotty service.

I can confirm Sprint's billing is just a total crapshow. I mean an absolute nightmare. I could detail my long journey working with them but suffice it to say they are horrible.

That said, I'm still grandfathered in on a fantastic deal. I can't give them up.

What happens with your bill?
I’ve been with Sprint for about 15 years and have never had a problem.
Of course, I only have 1 line and been on the same plan forever, so I just pay the same amount every month.

Sprint's network S U C K S!
Yes and no. This really depends on where you live and where you need to use it. I've had Sprint since the beginning and generally have good coverage for 98% of the places I go. The only time coverage starts to go bad is when I get WAY off the beaten path.

The majority of DFW metro area must be off the beaten path then. And all of I-35 between here and Wichita.

I switched away from Sprint to Verizon about 9 months ago after being with Sprint since 1999. I had a decent grandfathered unlimited data plan with some roaming data, but Verizon's unlimited price was about the same when I switched.

We travel frequently to rural areas, and Sprint coverage was just plain poor off the interstates. In the "old days" you could put a different PRL in the phone and get the phone to roam on Verizon when out in the country, but that got to be a hassle, and the hackers stopped leaking out the commercial PRLs that had roaming coverage.

In addition, that aforementioned problem of text messages being completely unreliable in metropolitan areas really ticked off my wife.

I do feel somewhat sorry for Sprint...I think they got hosed over in the Verizon/Alltel merger, but that's been a decade ago, and Sprint really hasn't done much to improve their coverage.

Verizon has worked like a charm so far.

Making phone calls outside of Iowa with US Cellular has never been an issue, it’s the data part. I was even right off Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and couldn’t pull up a map or search the internet. It happens every time I leave the state.

The only reason I switched from Verizon was because my current employer uses US Cellular. I had no issues with Verizon.

I drive I-35 quite frequently between Wichita and Ames (live in KC with family in both locations) and I have very few problems except around Lamoni and in the Flint Hills north of Emporia.
