For those in the know.....I have heard conflicting reports about the Nesbitt player from Ames. One source says she is going to walk on at Iowa and another says she has been recruited by Iowa. Does anyone know if she got a schollie to play at Iowa?

walk on year one, guaranteed full scholarship next 4 years (it's called a 5 for 4).

WOW...I have never heard of such a thing. Bill Fennelly told me, in regards to walk ons, "Our needs change every year so the best time for us to evaluate our needs is at the start of school." Iowa must be more desperate.

Trust me, happens ALL THE TIME. Some coaches do it, some don't, but it happens all the time. She would have gone to Drake or Creighton without the 4 year guarantee.

So does that mean she can not play during the first year?

she could, but she won't because that'll be her redshirt / walk-on year (hence 4 more to play). She'll do everything the other players do, except not play (except in exhibition games). She may not travel to the games they fly to, I'm not sure - different schools do it differently based on budget.

Change "guaranteed" to "promised" and then the NCAA police won't have to cite anybody for illegal practices. It is not possible to guanantee for any aid to kick in beginning year 2.

Even recruits who sign LOI's and accept scholarships for year 1 are not guaranteed anything beyond year 1.

Your right, "promised" is the right word. However if they don't keep their end of the bargain you can bet they'll get nailed in the "negative recruiting" business for years to come. You don't mess with bad PR in recruiting.
