So I was working on my all time football team for the clones and I ran into to the wide receivers and have no idea what to do. We have Lazard, X, Blythe, Butler, Jayden, Jaylin, Henderson, or Danielson. I feel like all these guys deserve a spot. Who would you guys pick as the top 4? (We're an air raid team now)

What is the criteria; Cyclone stats/performance or football career in totality?

Good list. First thought is that Amundson and Stensrud have to be in there.

And probably Bruce Reiner’s if professional career is considered. Played in SB and played in league over 10 yrs.

A consideration Just based on NFL career is Sage. Long time pro, but obvious other QBs with better ISU careers.

It’s hard to identify the “best players” based on college/school simply due to the variance in criteria IMO.

It is a fun discussion however!

I haven’t even looked at the list, but for receiving, I’d go top 2 in receptions and top 2 in receiving yards. If there is overlap (probably is)…look at top 2 in touchdowns. Then move back to third in receptions if you don’t yet have four. Then third in yards and so on.

IMO Hakeem Butler was the most physically dominant receiver is school history. His highlight reel demolishes any other.

Noel, Lazard, Hutchinson, and Higgins are impossible to pick between.

Solid list. I'd probably have Rubin as 1 of the DTs and Hayward as 1 DE. Also Knott over Rose but it's a toss up.

Well for a while there Cyclone Nation collectively said " throw it to Blythe" so he gets a spot. :D
X has the most all time catches and in a season, Lazard has the most yards and touchdowns in a season, Butler has the best season and was the flashiest, Henderson has the best yards game, Blythe has the most touchdowns all time and in a game. And Jaylin Noel is second at pretty much everything. Jayden Higgins is the highest drafted. It's such a toss up.

X and Higgins are basically prototype wr but Butler, Blythe, Lazard and Noel all make strong cases with more specialized strengths.

I only go back to ‘96 being a fan. I remember when Blythe started breaking some records there was one earlier WR the “old timers” would point to as better.

Based on those parameters (specific #'s not included):

Receptions, career:
1. Hutchinson
2. Noel
3. Lazard
4. Deshaunte Jones
5. Blythe

Receiving yards, career:
1. Lazard
2. Blythe
3. Hutch
4. Noel
5. Higgins

TD receptions, career:
1. Blythe
2. Lazard
(3. Kolar, TE)
4. Butler, Noel (tie)
6. Bundrage, Higgins, Hutchinson, Ed Williams (Krepfle, TE)

---> Could be adjustment for ypg, ypc and other elements based on fewer games, if someone wants to go back in time even further

Are you also including special teams? PK, punter, kick return, punt return?

Probably would limit to 2:

KR: Luther Blue, Kene Nwangwu
PR: James McMillion, perhaps somebody else

Not sure how I'd rank kickers, no time now to delve.

Eel gets my vote for PR. Maybe JJ Moses #2 or Simply Jamain Billups for the return in The bowl game.

Hutchinson, Noel. Lazard. and Blythe sound good to me. Amazing how much better our receivers have been the last 10 years or so…

I know the NFL is different today and I don't know how much you're valuing college vs pro stats, but I'm gonna give a quick shoutout to my avatar/family:

This is pretty damn neat, a series of plays following a Lou Groza record FG to win the 1953 NFL Championship Game:

EDIT: If this is going to be blocked, just look on Youtube for the following and skip to ~22:35:

World's Championship Football Game (Cleveland Browns at Detroit Lions, 1953)
