Just wanted to pass along a few things to you guys. I have more basketball coverage coming but these are just some of the things I thought would be better as notes than full stories.
*** I know this has been reported several other places but Iowa State will have three-star Florida forward Luke Anderson and commit Marcedus Leech on campus for official visits next week. I'll have more on that early next week.
*** Look for Iowa State to bring guys in on official visits for each of the first three football weekends as well as the weekend of the West Virginia game. Hilton Madness will be the night before the game against the Mountaineers -- Oct. 12.
*** It sounds like Iowa State is looking into utilizing the new NCAA rules put in place earlier this month allowing juniors to take official visits. Michigan guard Jalen Terry, who was in Ames on an unofficial visit last weekend, will be one name to keep an eye on in this regard. I think they sit pretty well in this recruitment due to the Monte Morris connection with Beecher High School. I've been told he's more athletic and shoots better than Monte did at that age, but might not be as polished in the areas of being a pure point guard.
*** The primary focus for this recruiting cycle is going to be guards. They'll work to bring in another forward, but adding on the perimeter will be the biggest key. I wouldn't even be surprised to see them target some JUCO options on this front but that could potentially stretch into the spring.
*** I'm hearing the interest on five-star 2020 big man N'Faly Dante's side is legit after his unofficial visit last weekend. He's going to have the option to go basically anywhere he wants, but his guardian lives in the Des Moines area and that gives Iowa State an in. Not sure how "in" they are at this point, but they're certainly in the conversation and it is obviously good when you can be in the conversation for one of the best players in a class, especially when he could be a potentially game-changing big man.
*** At this point, don't expect to see any of Iowa State's four true freshmen redshirt in 2018.
*** One of the biggest downsides of the new rules put in place by the NCAA is it prohibits high school freshmen from making unofficial visits. That means Iowa State won't be able to get Ames point guard and Iowa State offer holder Tamin Lipsey on campus this year.
*** It sounds like everyone is very much in wait and see mode on the new structure being put in place for summer high school basketball, especially in regards to the regional camps and what the NCAA calls scholastic competition. It does sound like one of the positives of it though is college coaches being able to attend the NBAPA Top-100 camp.
