Impressive stats, lots of small providers could have trouble, fiber or 5g, have to think they go to usage pricing at some point.

The TMobile material mentions a gateway, is that basically the same as modem/wireless router? How is the set-up for multiple TV's, does each need a gateway? My dad's TV aren't smart, so we have Roku set up on both TV's. Can Roku be used for wireless?

TIA
Yes, the gateway is the modem/wireless router, so you only have one. I wired my own mesh wifi system to it, but that's not necessary. You can just use the gateway wifi as-is.

I think any relatively new rokus have wifi connectivity, but I don't know for certain.

They do. Roku Ultra’s ($60-$70) can also be hard wired via Ethernet if you have wires run. Pretty awesome.

My dad recently received a direct mail piece from TMobile. I would love to switch because Mediacom isn't the greatest. Plus, at $50 per month that would save about $30/month.

The gateway is basically a modem and router combo. Just put it somewhere that has good 5G signal and plug it in. It will create the WiFi network for your house.

Your TVs can use whatever you want, Roku, Fire, Apple TV, etc. Any of those will connect to the WiFi network created by the gateway device.

Thought I'd bump this. Just did a mini browse on Verizon home internet. Prior it was something not offered and now is for my area. I currently have Verizon as my phone service provider and have a Galaxy 10e. They keep trying to sell me a new phone via all of their specials offers but would require a new plan for me and my old grandfathered in one is pretty cheap. Looking at what I'd need to do to qualify and it looks like an upgrade to include interweb would be a possibility. Just checked speed of connection via the phone and it's 160mps so I'm in an area with decent coverage.

So, anyone using this? I still have Xfinity internet, up till now it was the only decent option but rolling everything into Verizon now seems like a good option. I need a new modem/router anyway so there is that cost to subtract. I've owned my own modem so wasn't getting charged for that, does Verizon add that in as another unquoted "extra" like the half dozen add-ons to about every utility in the USA? Generally been happy with Verizon. Their overseas charges when traveling suck but that's only a two or three weeks a year thing and I just stick to wifi connecting when out of the country.

I tried t mobile and it was super unreliable. It would go from 500 mb down to .2 or no connection at all at times. The gateway is this Nokia pos that overheats and is super finicky. Also if you are on Hulu live this is a no go as every time you have to reset this POS it changes your ip address and you have to change your home location to Hulu and can do that 3 times a year before you get locked out of your account. If you have better wired connection that would be the way to go. These 5g connection are more for people with no other options imo.

Bumping this thread because I'm tired of paying $100+ for CenturyLink internet. T-Mobile and Verizon both have internet available in our area. Does anyone use either of these? We stream a lot, and occasionally work from home, so it needs to be fast and reliable.

What speed of Centurylink do you have for that price? I'm paying $55/month for the fastest they offer in my area at 40 Mbs DSL. Generally don't have too many issues. However, I'm about to pay my last bill with them as Google Fiber is finally available at my house. $70/month for 1 Gb fiber.

We have the fastest speed available, but I'm not sure of the specifics. The billed amount has been steadily going up. Started at $60/month when we signed on but it goes up by $10 about every six months. Current bill is $105/month. No issues, but it still seems like a lot.

I had TMobile starting in May 2021 and switched to Verizon in Jan 2023. At the start we would get speeds of about 150-175mg with TMobile, but starting last summer starting having significant issues with access and speed (we live near 3 towers and one of the towers went down last summer and did not get repaired until Dec/Jan - they just rerouted traffic to the other two towers which caused significant conjestion not just for internet but even by cell phones. Verizon also has a couple of towers near us and we get consistent 300mg speed from them.) I was very unhappy with TMobile customer service as they kept giving us the run-around on speed despite knowing the problem was over subscription of the service and not paying to fix their towers. I would recommend Verizon, they have been great the couple of months we have had the service - hopefully they do not oversell the service as well.

I have UScellular and use an Inseego 5g router that works well for about 5 minutes and is terrible thereafter. Does anyone else use this and does it work for you?

I signed my parents up for T-Mobile 5G home internet and it has worked great for them. Consistent 100-200 Mbps download speeds in rural SW Iowa. They live 4 miles out of town. Highly recommend if you don't have better options. $50/mo no data caps.

My dad has T-Mobile and its been great. $50/month, free gateway and no contract. He's about a mile from the cell towers and have had very few connectivity issues. Not sure if the issues are on T-Mobile or FuboTV/YTTV.

The ISP issue with T-Mobile can be a pain if you like local TV news or a local football team and have streaming service like FuboTV which identifes your location based on the server location used by T-Mobile. My dad's in Dubuque and we tend to route through T-Mobile's servers in Minneapolis (but it changes frequently). So missed a lot of Bears games this past fall. We recently switched to YTTV to catch NCAA Tournament games and the YTTV platform allows user to specify a zip code which determines local news.

I've had T-Mobile for about 6 months. No issues at all. We usually have a bunch of devices streaming at once.
