***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

Right, so nothing new.
They are the Vikings so nobody will be surprised if they win 8 again, but any reason anyone has had for optimism should still be there. Back ups usually suck, maybe ours suck worse, otherwise D has some more talent and O line is still not great. Nothings changed.
well said. Minnesota sat something like 25 players last night, the vast majority of which were their starters. That game changed shouldn't have had an impact on anyone's outlook for the season. It was backups against backups.

I went to the game Saturday and a few thoughts:

1. First time in US Bank Stadium. It's quite impressive.
2. Purdy generally got the offense to move the ball and he looked sharp. At times he was the best QB playing that night.
3. SF WRs did Purdy dirty. We counted 6 drops.
4. Vikings better pray Cousins stays healthy. Mannion and Mond looked awful.
5. Hard to really gather much for the Vikings as it was all backups/guys that are on the chopping block.
6. Crowd was REALLY into the game for a preseason game. Much louder/fuller than I though it'd be.
7. Robbie Gould is a hell of a kicker.

Either way, a seventh rounder doesn't hurt too bad.
Exactly. It's a pittance. Granted, he's not exactly what you would call a rock star, but he has some starting experience. Regardless, the amount of consternation that some fans are having about the backup quarterback is amusing.
Cousins is the guy for this year and probably next. His successor is not on the team yet.

I think that's over stating things a bit. Mannion is a known entity and has shown he is absolutely not capable of playing winning football if something were to happen to Cousins. This trade validates that conclusion,

I think most everyone knows the team's next (long term) QB is not on the team yet.

Mullens is an upgrade over Mond and Mannion. While he's not a great QB, probably about the best we could do to upgrade the backup QB spot right before the season

Agree. The back spot isn't overly critical for the Vikes anyway as the one good quality Cousins has--he's durable.

Mullens, a guy with a bunch of experience with a good team, for maybe a 7th is a great trade. Upgraded for near-zero cost.

Good write up.

I think Nailor has a really good shot at getting the WR6 role, but Chisena has been a go-to special teams guy in the past. Jefferson, Thielen, Osborn, Bisi, and ISM is a really deep group of five IMO so maybe they will be more comfortable with a WR6 who is only a special teamer.

Lynch vs. Twyman vs. Otomewo for the last interior DL spot. Just shows how hard it is to make an NFL roster.

Also would be something if Oli Udoh didn't even make the roster. Hopefully that would be a signal of a much improved OL.

Mond and Surratt are not making the 53, which means Rick Spielman's last draft will have whiffed on two 3rd rounders about as soon as a 3rd rounder can be a whiff. Ouch. And Wyatt Davis isn't doing anything either.

I could see Mond making the roster, but at the same time, he'd most likely clear waivers and they can stash him on the practice squad.

I'd rather they went with two qbs and keep an extra guy at receiver or DL.

I would be really shocked if they had more than 2 QBs. The only way is if they think someone could poach Mond off of the PS and they see potential there.

I think it will be Cousins and Mullens on the 53, Mond on the PS, and Mannion released.

The most recent prediction from the Vikings Fansided site has Mond making it and Bisi Johnson getting cut. I would not be pleased with that outcome.
