***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

The Vikings have way too many holes and roster building to do. They cannot afford to give up a bunch of picks for another QB that is injury prone... behind an offensive line that needs help. Don't get me wrong. Burrow is way better than what the Vikings have... there is too many issues with the current team right now.

They need to use the picks to bolster their roster to make up for Kwesi's drafting blunders.

The old boss is a **** until you meet the new one.

(This is not a defense of Kwesi, his insistence on JJMac and general draft ineptitude was completely fireable. Just an observation about how the Vikings will always make the wrong decision).
It's still just incredible to me that if MIN had drafted basically any other QB in either JJMs draft or the one after, they'd be in a better spot right now. This organization's ability to always make the worst possible choice is mystical.

Hey! You know what is not great strategy when attempting to negotiate a deal with another team? Publicly stating that you are really putting a lot of effort towards getting it. JFC this organization can be stupid as hell. As much as I like Burrow, failing to address the oline and giving away multiple draft picks just hamstrings a team that's already in a difficult cap situation.

The amount of publicity means it almost certainly won't happen. We run into this almost every offseason where some blockbuster trade is floated as a high priority and never comes to fruition. That's been happening back into the Speilman days even. The only big-time trade rumor that seemed to come close was the Drake Maye offer during the draft, the rest have always ended up being nothing but smoke.

They aren't publicly stating anything, it's just beat writer nonsense. 3/4ths of the entire NFL would "do anything to get Joe Burrow". That said, it would be pretty funny/Vikings like to deplete all of our first round picks before hiring a new GM.

I don't think Cincy ends up moving him. Seems like bait for them to ask way, way too much and end up with nothing.

Vikings have one more year until #9 gets a big jump.
His cap hit jumps to a paltry $7 million in 2027 from $6 million in 2026. Unless he shows any signs of promise, they aren't executing the 5th year rookie option. They may go the GB route with Love by giving him a 5th year at a reduced rate, but he has to show a lot more consistency and the ability to stay healthy at some point.

Can I ask why? Injuries? If healthy he is good. His cap hit wouldn't be awful. If they somehow snagged him for 2 firsts, a 2nd and Greenard, I might do it
Injury-prone guy for sure. Cap hit is about $49M next year, then gradually increases to $58M so not too bad. It will just depend on what you have to give up in personnel and draft capital.

Most picks get their a new contract after the third year. GB gave Love a bump a year before his was done and then the big numbers hit the next year. He also sat a couple years unlike 9.

Sometimes. Other times a team will just pick up the 5th year option to allow more time for a long-term contract negotiation. KC did it two different ways with their two first rounders from 2022. With one they worked out a deal prior to this past season for a long-term extension, the other will play on his 5th year option for 2026. They may work out a long-term deal; they might trade him or even let him walk.

There's also plenty of times the 5th year isn't picked up and teams just let the guy walk after 4 years.

GB declined the 5th year option and instead gave him a 1-year incentive laden deal to add a 5th year on his rookie contact. It bought GB time at less guaranteed dollars. They ultimately signed a new extension prior to the 2024 season.

Kwesi was a disaster from day one - other than FA signings from prior year (Greenard, Gink, and Cashman) - and should have never been re-upped (or hired in the first place).

But, he's not the only one contributing to this - KOC is Charmin-soft with the players and has miles to go with game coaching. He seems to want to call his plays regardless of team/opponent/situation - Darnold wasn't the only one to blame when MN was destroyed by DET and LAR to end the prior year. This year, e.g., just look how he committed malpractice by leaving Wentz in the game against LAC when he was literally getting destroyed. The issue was not even about being competitive - who cares at that point if JJ or Brosmer could even call the plays.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think #1 option has to be getting George Paton back.
Do we really want Paton? He almost torpedoed Denver with the Russell Wilson trade and contract. Sean Payton has had his hands in a lot more personnel decisions since he got there and the turn around started

Denver sure seems like they’ll do anything financially to keep him. Not sure they’d do that if they didn’t think he was key to their turnaround.

I think I that is the cap hit for the Bengals. It would at least $8 million less for the Vikings due to how the bonus work. I think it would actually be $35M for the Vikings because of how the option things are prorated.

I may be incorrect

It may be 28 in 2026, then 33, then 42 then 57
