***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

And Kwesi hired KOC if I recall. Brilliant football minds.
IMO they both have this next offseason and regular season to get things going or they are both gone. I imagine this is why they are going to try their best to grab someone like a Burrow. There’s no way they go into next season with McCarthy as their starter again. Would be a death sentence for their Viking careers.

I agree KOC is part of this stuff. They both need to win a fuk ton of games next year.

Remember.... Kwesi's previous stop? That's right, the Cleveland Browns. Just sayin.

Maybe you guys know something I don’t but how is KOC avoiding criticism in all of this? No about the GM is involved but I just can’t imagine decisions were made in the off season without KOC on board.
Apparently, nobody is aware that MIN offered both Darnold and Jones contracts which they both chose to leave to pursue elsewhere.

And no one is aware that SEA probably has the best defense in the entire league, which seriously covers up Darnold's bad games, which statistically have been most of his recent games before today's. Lots of lots of games with, like, 150-200 yards and a single TD or less, all ending in wins anyway.

Sometimes, you just have to accept that the fit wasn't right, and now they found better ones. That does not mean that same success would've happened for MIN otherwise. As for GM and HC, fire and replace if you want. Just make sure to sell off the entire roster and start over with that. The roster now is built around JJM and some cheaper-ish free agents in order to pay for Jefferson and the tackles. You don't have time on those to spend another 2-3 seasons drafting in while still finishing in the middle of the pack every season (which is mainly why KOC has kept his seat cool to begin with -- they still win games).

And...Darnold advances the Seahawks to the SB.
Just. Wow.

Finally a voice of reason. It's easy to stand back and be critical about not retaining Darnold who's now most likely going to win a Super Bowl 1 year removed from being a starting QB for the Vikings, but does anyone really believe Darnold would be playing for a Super Bowl right now had he stayed in MN? I don't doubt the Vikings likely win a couple more games at least and make the playoffs, but we saw how this played out last year. Seattle quite simply is a better team than the 2024 Vikings. Darnold played pretty well tonight, but he's played poorly enough for them to lose in recent weeks. They've just overcame that performance because they're a truly elite team around him.

I've spent all year just being annoyed as hell at how well Darnold is doing and growing less and less confident in Kwesi...

that being said, really happy for Darnold. Dude deserves this.

I was hoping the Seahawks would've lost already solely to avoid the onset of more jaded Vikings fans, but alas, here we are. Admittedly, this was a foreseeable outcome only because it's the Vikings. Just another day in the life.

As a reminder, back in the off-season when both of those QBs left MIN, it was widely regarded as a fine move for the org to make, given they had McCarthy sitting around. There was exactly zero media or insider hype around either of Darnold or Jones when the season began. Nobody expected a run this deep from Darnold or for Jones to start the year on fire (and largely regress back to his mean before getting injured).

Even if the Vikings had kept Darnold, I do believe they would NOT be going to the Superbowl. The Vikings defense is good... but have too many issues on offense. KOC and Kwesi thinking that McCarthy was ready is gross negligence on their part. They should have known he was not ready yet.... thus keeping Darnold or Jones was the correct move.

They offered both Darnold and Jones contracts but both declined.

True, but it would’ve been interesting to know length and if they said they were still planning to draft a QB in the 1st. Darnold was only 27, so if they intended to use a 1st on a QB instead of helping elsewhere, they were saying he wasn't the guy long-term, and they were looking at him as a 1-2 year bridge.

Maybe this information is already out there and leaked, but I don't know. So offering a contract, but a short deal while communicating that they were going to draft a QB in the 1st is pretty much making that decision for Darnold.

They would've had to make some other tough roster decisions for sure to afford Darnold.

And had either accepted, the defense likely would've been significantly worse this season. That's where the QB money went to. Keeping a guy that was on the practice squad and another guy who had just played terrible in the most meaningful games of the season was not a convincing roster choice at the time. It's a hell of a lot of hindsight being applied to "keep Darnold" right now.

Did they move on too quickly from a guy playing his first playoff game? Maybe. Would they have been the only org to make the same decision in that same circumstance? Absolutely not. That's why it wasn't controversial at the time.

Prior to last night, Darnold had thrown for less than 200 yards in 3 straight games and had 2 TD and 1 INT over that stretch. He was essentially the same guy we saw the last 2 games last year. Credit to him for turning it around last night, but on this Vikings team he wouldn't have had that chance, especially since signing him would have meant several pieces of the defense wouldn't be here.

Jones declined because he was told he would be the backup to McCarthy. Not sure if the same was said to Darnold. Either way, it's quite obvious McCarthy was not ready and might not ever be ready.

Hmm, I wonder why, the writing was on the wall for both of them to be benched at anytime since they spent such high draft Capitol on "9".

They both made the correct decision to leave because they didn't have some boy wonder in waiting at Seattle or Indy.
