The ISU block was absolutely terrible tonight which made things easy for the UNI front row. Only 3 blocks in a 4 set match. Can’t tell if the team is tired or just off. Not a lot of good kills, passing is off and blocking is off. Hoping this is an anomaly versus what the season will be.
The level of play was that of high school IMO.That was embarrassing. Got clobbered by the 2023 2A Iowa State All Tournament Team.
I agree on Sullivan. The program has noticeably slipped since her departure. And also noticeable was the coaching advantage that UNI had last night. The last good teams I can remember were 2012-2017 where we have Conaway and Capezio both had coaching changes and were released. Lazard, West, Schaben (fr) Hahn her successor Nolan as liberos other really nice pieces. I think this version of ISU is what the program is. Make the tourney almost every year get knocked out in 1st or 2nd round and that is a long way from where we were when CJL took over a trainwreck.
Losing to the burnt piece of toast at UNI is very disappointing especially looking at who they recruit. None of those hitters are big 12 level with the exception of maybe Hartman. We are not sneaking into an elite 8 spot ala 2008 ever again unless our recruiting somehow takes a giant leap forward. I am thinking a certain coach in Mizzou was a way bigger part of this thing than I thought.
Before we get into the facilities BS UNI facilities are dark small and terrible.
Yep the Gonzales absence is big for a program like Iowa State’s.I agree on Sullivan. The program has noticeably slipped since her departure. And also noticeable was the coaching advantage that UNI had last night.
Regarding facilities, McKee should help ISU and its impact is perhaps being felt with the recent 2027 commits (Austen, Vogt, Ladwig) who all appear to be very good B12 quality prospects.
Regarding this season, it is too early to throw in the towel until Gonzalez and Ti'a get healthy and see if their contributions can improve the odds for the team to get in the NCAAs. I still have yet to see a timetable for either one of those two to play again.
You should ask Louisville about that.UNI is always a problem for Iowa State ~ same with women’s basketball. And this goes for both women's teams: It is frustrating to watch because it makes me want to watch their regular season games/matches and with a few exceptions with UNI volleyball teams, I am left thinking "where is the team that played Iowa State so tough?"
