***2026 ISU Volleyball Thread***

We seem to lack size and our block has been nearly nonexistent all year long....and when you go up against programs like Minnesota, that really hurts

I don't really get our rotations....seems like CJL will go entire sets with a certain lineup....have barely seen Tierney at all tonight

It has been a heck of a year. In some ways, the team exceeded expectations. My own personal awards…

Biggest surprise: Freshman class, they showed a very bright future
MVP: A tie between Nayeli Ti’a and Rachael Van Gorp
Best Match: A tie between ASU at home and Utah reverse sweep
Off the bench clutch: Ava Martin - added a break for Morgan and sparked the offense more then a few times

Would love to hear some other thoughts.

Was at the game last night. I'm not a volleyball expert at all but Julia Hanson on MN was amazing. She was almost unstoppable. She seemed to get up high enough to just hit right over our block. Was a pretty fun atmosphere but wish the clones could've won a set.

Regarding MVP: Morgan Brandt was B12 Setter of the Year for a reason and co-MVP with RVG IMO.

Agree that Goolsby and Hanfelt appear to recruiting hits as FR. Bettis and Grant TBD.

Also agree on best matches.

Biggest key next season is adequately replacing Brandt. Martin is certainly capable in a 6-2 but playing her in the front row in a 5-1 is highly questionable vs B12 and other P5 competition. If no transfer setter is brought in, a lot will riding on Florez as an immediate and effective contributor at setter.

And speaking of transfers, top VB programs will likely be attempting to poach RVG who should get high AA recognition.

Speaking of transfer setters.

Not sure if there's a transfer portal thread but the top 2 setters from the B12 in ast/set are already in the portal.
Bower (BYU)
Scoggins(UA)

Brandt was so good- Ava Martin could develop into a great setter because she is really good now. We need competition there but we need that everywhere.

Special recognition- Tierney Jackson. She really made the most of her switch to RS. She will be hard to replace.

Well I casually follow VB, am I out of line by thinking we exceeded expectations?
It had been a while since we've made the tourney.

We were better this year for sure. Now that my daughter is done playing I only have the clones to follow full time. Hope to have a better handle on what they team is going forward. MN was a middle of the road team we should have moved on if we played anywhere close to our best.

Exceeded outside expectations- preseason poll etc, but making and winning a tourney game should always be the expectation IMO for this program.

We’ve made the tourney every year since CJL has been here except for in 2018, the shortened Covid season in 2020 and last year with those injuries.
