2026 crop year

what do they plant?

Pioneer.

As others have said, the risk is to labor & fuel. Grower's thought process is that with the best genetics possible and seed treatment that the seed company will cover the re-plant. Someone can also correct me, but you can get crop insurance earlier than the April 10th date, you just have to pay for that option. Kinda like hail.

That said, I ain't even thinking of doing anything until the week of the 13th.

We got a call today from dealer looking for a salt tolerant curbita for a north dakota grower to plant on his ranch for grazing. Fun to put that hardcore Agronomist hat on again. At the least we will have some fun trials to visit this summer.

Really would have loved to missed today's rain. Could have planted tomorrow but I guess we're due for a year with later planting

Does pioneer cover if the plant gets froze off after it emerges?

In Iowa? Today’s the insurance date…
Yeah but if we had missed the rain we would have gone today. As it stands with the forecast going forward I'd say +2 weeks is significantly more likely than anything sooner.

Not that late April is crazy late or anything but we've planted on the insurance date the past 3 years

3,000 went in
One of the larger farmers around us (NC Iowa) was planting last week- I think my dad said he had 300 acres planted or something like that before the rain started

Usually a company will give you 100% replant if you buy 100% of your seed from them. Or you get 50% replant if you plant seed from more then one company.
I get free replant from brevant and 25/bag from dekalb, but I rarely plant soybeans and corn generally doesn’t have the growing point out of the ground when it freezes.

The insurance date is for replant. Your regular crop insurance coverage is in effect even if you plant before the date. It will be Monday at the earliest for us if we miss the rain tomorrow. The replant date doesn’t mean anything to me. Ground conditions & forecast is what determines when we start.

Our corn crop in central Texas has already had several ups and downs. The early corn was planted mostly in the dust . Most started around the 10 - 11 of February. After 5 days of serious planting it got cold and rainy and we wound up with just enough moisture to get it up. I'd guess at least half the country was planted when the rain hit. The rest went in between the 25 of February and the 1st of March. Its amazing at the difference in the early and later plantings. The early is around 32 inches tall and you cannot see the middles. The later is about half that tall. We need some heavy rains. But as long as we keep getting these little showers from 3 to 6 10ths of an inch we'll do fine.

Talked to dealer today, Pioneer will provide soybean seed free if it is seed treated. You are just out time and fuel. Maybe that is why seed prices are so high? Over half done with corn, had a half inch of rain today.

Well rain delay for me. Rained out about 630 tonight.

Get much in? Given how much rain much of Iowa has received I'm quite happy that we got all our corn in and at least some beans
