2025 Wrestle Offs

I don't think it has anything to do with a wrestle off. There's nothing in his history that says he's a top 15 level guy.

Thanks for all the discussion about the wrestle offs. Busy time of year. Count me in the boat that says not to push the guys hard to get out there for the Iowa dual. A win would be great for so many reasons but it isn't the prize. Not even close. Far more important to be on top of their game come March!
Maybe I am jaded by him rag dolling Brown at Mizzou last year, (and talking to dresser this summer/fall). Raised my expectations for him.

hes beaten the 1 proven guy at 149 in shayne van ess so that is something( i am more comfortable with jacob taking this spot btw)
Also has beaten Austin Gomez. In addition to multiple AAs in Alvarez, Mauller, Murin. His hit list is better than Frost’s, but he also has some bad losses.

Frost had a good finish to his season last year, and I get that people like his style better (me too). But he consistently loses to all of the best guys with consistently losing soundly to Happel and Koderhandt. His only career wins over AAs were 2 at NCAAs last year. Paniro has shown the capability to beat them.

It is a very tough decision for this coaching staff.

Does anyone know when brackets are released for the invitational? Was curious if the other teams there were sending their full lineups or not. Not a ton of highly rated guys but Wisconsin does have a few in the lower/mid range with #9 at 125, #4 at 133 and 13 at 149.

It school is supposed to send the top 2 guys at every weight. I’m sure there will be some holes but most weights should have 10 entries.

It's not a W, but he lost in OT to Yianni as a freshman. Taking a 4-timer to the wire is solid.

As a positive, we should feel good about either Jacob or Paniro rolling out at 149. Guessing we'll see both of them a decent bit regardless of how the wrestle off shakes out.

We also only have 3/4 of a season to Judge J. Frost on. We have two full years out of PJ.

I don't envy the staff at all. And selfishly as a fan and them as people, wish they could both find a spot at the same time.

Very excited to see round two between them this weekend. I maintain you’re basically making a consistency vs upside trade off with those two. If you ran ten ncaa tourneys for each one frost probably gets AA more times, but Johnson likely has the overall highest finish.

Jacob is not wrestling this weekend

Another difficulty for the staff in choosing between PJ and J Frost is that they have no real data regarding Frost up a weight at 149.
He looks the part and wrestled well in the wrestle-off, but seeing him against some unfamiliar competition will be telling. It's too bad we won't see him this weekend.

We understand you hate PJ but it’s not to hard to understand. Paniro has 1/2 dozen wins better than any Jacob has in college. Jacob is moving up. Yes, he has had a few head scratcher losses especially at NCAAs.

PJ knows he is on a short lease with Dresser. I expect him to be more consistent otherwise Dresser will have no problem moving on.

I don’t hate Paniro, I just appreciate consistency and doing the little stuff to stay consistent. He doesn’t do that. If that has changed that’s great.

I get as frustrated with him as anybody, but the lack of consistency combined with cywr89 is exactly why I said what I did.
