It’s a flawed system but they have to start somewhere year 1. I still can’t believe we weren’t top 24 and in the running for this.. I’m sure in the future they can figure out a better system, but they have to start somewhere.

They can’t put it off because teams have to set their schedules. I am just disappointed we won’t be in it as it’s going to be a big event

The ideal scenario would be an exempt event held the last weekend of the regular season, using current NWCA rankings. Have teams indicate in/out by Jan. 15, and then the top 16 of the "in" group participates.

Only thing about the last week is teams wouldn’t go because they don’t want there guys getting injured right before postseason

Agree with you and not calling you wrong, but man that logic to me never made sense. Competition is competition, that’s why you train right? But for some reason that’s become the logic, when it’s just as easy to get “injured” during a practice. In fact I’ve seen more injuries in practice than competition.

They'll be down but I still think being a Top 16 dual team is a reasonable expectation. Losing Keck really hurts the tournament side however.
If you want this to be an event of “top teams” or whatever, there’s zero reason to have UNI in the field over Iowa State.

I am fine with allowing the top 10-12 teams from the previous year a chance to be in the field- they earned it. From there, I think a group of wrestling writers (Willie, Basch, Piles, etc) get together and work on the "wild card" teams to give them the option to participate. The writers have the best idea of what teams will be competitive and most worth the spot

This is fair. Respect this and would be ok with this. But man, in the transfer era those top teams can easily fall off a cliff (like an ASU) from one year to the next. And then show up at a thing like this and be beaten like a tied up goat.

Let’s just get all the coaches in a room together and let them figure it out. I’m sure that group will come up with consensus for criteria they all agree on. lol

Pretty sure it was 2011 Arizona state they had gone 5-12 in duals then ended up getting 6th in the ncaa tournament because they had two national champions and one AA

What are the chances the criteria was purposely made up to exclude Iowa State this year (given the prize money/NIL component)....beings we're Okie State's biggest/most consistent threat in the Big 12?

I don't think people think as much about ISU wrestling as you think they do.

Iowa state only has Iowa state to blame.. Paniro, eFrost, Chittum, MJ, bockman.. we needed more points and another AA at nationals. ISU just had a letdown of a season and it hurts them with a cool event like this
