...and I put "National Duals" in quotes because this is a totally different event from what we've historically known as National Duals.

Nov. 15-16, 2025 - Tulsa, Okla.

Automatic Entries (up to 12):
Top 12 teams from 2025 NCAA (Penn State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Minnesota, Ohio State, Cornell, NC State, Northern Iowa, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Michigan)
NOTE: Teams must confirm participation by April 15

Lottery Entries (to complete the 16-team field):
Random drawing from teams that finished 13th-24th at 2025 NCAA (Purdue, Missouri, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, Little Rock, Arizona State, Stanford, West Virginia, Navy, Wyoming, South Dakota State, Indiana, Maryland and Oregon State)
NOTE: Drawing will take place April 24

Shame because we are so much better right now at duals than tournament. And we are probably at least top 12 there

Agree. This is a flawed qualifying system. To not take into account dual rankings is a poor decision! So many of those 13th-24th placing teams only had a decent wrestler or two that did well in the tourney.

It is definitely flawed and will have very lopsided results but it’s also hard to know what the top dual teams will be when team roster changes will happen through the summer.

We were also 5-1 against the teams that placed 13th-24th. I would bet we would have beat most of the others as well. I just think they should wait for the beginning of next season and incorporate the dual rankings into the selection process. Using tourney results is bad enough. Using previous year results makes it that much worse!

While true, how often is it that one of the best 12-16 dual teams isn’t a top 24 tournament team?

Has to be fairly rare.

If you take the final NWCA Coaches poll (based on dual results) and the NCAA order of finish, and average them...

*You get the same Top 12 teams: PSU, Neb, OkSt, Iowa, Minn, OhSt, Cornell, NCSU, UNI, Illinois, Michigan

*13-24 becomes: LR, Lehigh, SDSU, Stanford, Mizzou, ISU, Penn, WVU, Pitt, Indiana, Rutgers, UNC

ASU, Maryland and Purdue are out because they didn't receive any dual ranking votes (outside top 31).
Wyoming, Navy, and Oregon State are out based on average.

The problem is basing it off of last years results. I get they have to do it somehow, but OSU loses 7 starters and like 80 NCAA points.

UNI loses 70% of their team points. They’ll be undeniably much worse next year and I doubt they’re a top 20 team again.

just spitballing, but to keep emphasis on duals take the spring results of 2025 and the fall results of 2025 and make a National Dual tourney in say January of 2026 to combine both years and when you do the dual take say 2-3 weeks off wrestling like the NHL did for their All Star game replacement…keeps kids “fresh” after the dual and gets geared up for the postseason…somehow need a “points system” to award dual team wins and also National “team” pts to ensure as level of playing field as possible…

They can’t wait until then to decide. Not practical.

A lot of teams are going to decline their invite. No way PSU goes to this, IMHO. But would like to be wrong.
Set up to be an Okie State show. In Tulsa, sponsored by Paycom. Weigh ins should be televised so we can all see the shenanigans....
