I have some CRP contracts that expire this year. Applied to renew as soon as they would take applications. Applications were due June 6. Haven’t heard anything. Has anyone?

There are a few offices in Iowa that could close.
I remember reading somewhere that Rollins' long term goal is to just have everyone file applications and paperwork through an online portal, which is fine for younger farmers, but the older ones are going to struggle with that piece. In the article below, OMB also is saying they want to get rid of most/all of the county offices and run things through the state committees.

Sure runs things through a state office until they get caught making a decision on a guys application before the committee heard what the guy had to say. No thanks but our voice doesn’t matter much.

IMO we have come to the time where many county based services, should be combined into regionally based locations. Primarily due to the continued drop in our rural population, and the ability to communicate remotely. Some examples:

USDA FSA / NRCS Offices
County Extension Offices
County Fairs
County Economic Development Offices
Many of the services in our courthouses - Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder, Judicial

There could be substantial taxpayer savings by combining these services regionally. However, which politician would have the backbone to suggest these changes as the local communities would be fighting these proposals.

I do the majority of my paperwork online. I work with two different counties. One office requires appointments and one doesn’t. The one that doesn’t serves two counties.

Note- live in southern Iowa

I'm the same- almost everything I do is online (NC Iowa). I have land in 2 different counties, but moved all of the farms over to one so at least I don't have to deal with 2 offices. I can see it being a struggle for some in the older generation to manage a portal.

Speaking of soybeans, anyone have some favorite bean varieties to deal with IDC? Our soils are almost all prone to it at least in some portion of the field. Thinking next year I might want to go harder into IDC tolerance than I have been so far.
