*** 2025-26 ISU WBB Season Thread ***

AP poll is out and we move up 4 to #12. TCU is now a top 10 team thanks to their win against NC State. Duke is out of the poll following their loss to "only 5 players in the second half" West Virginia.

Iowa plays Baylor in Orlando on Thursday. That'll give us a good idea of what both teams are really like this season.
Yes that game should let us know who's who between those two. Baylor has struggled against the likes of Lindenwood and UNLV. The Duke game was not an exciting game at all. Nobody really deserved to win that game but somebody had to.

For context, here's who the other winners were. Crooks was Player of the Week and Cincy's Caliyah DeVillasee was Freshman of the Week.

"Iowa State’s Audi Crooks (player) and Cincinnati’s Caliyah DeVillasee (freshman) collected Big 12 women’s basketball accolades for the second week of the 2025-26 campaign. Iowa State’s Addy Brown, TCU’s Marta Suarez and West Virginia’s Sydney Shaw join the two weekly award winners in earning spots on the Big 12 Starting Five, which highlights strong performances from across the league.' - Big 12
DeVillasee has 15 assists in the Bearcats’ 100-61 win over Georgetown College.

Have been thinking about TCU. I’m glad Crooks has improved her free throw shooting. I imagine TCU using a hack a shaq method on her with the pair of 6’7” gals they have.

I'd think if you have gals with that height you don't try hacking. Will be interesting to see how they use that height, won't be able to easy lob it over them like we are doing with the mini-posts in our stroll through the cupcake aisle if they opt to position for that.

So far this season Crooks can either just muscle into position against an undersized gal for an inlet pass or take a lob over the top of said undersized gal.

I've been impressed that we haven't become a "pass to Audi and that's it" type of offense. The team has shown against the cupcakes that we can adapt to the defenses that are presented. If we have to shoot from outside or midrange, we can do that. I think that makes us a harder team to defend.

But if they wanna hack Audi, I'm very glad that she worked on her free throw shooting during the offseason!

So.......as of today with what knowledge we have, if you had to bet $10,000 on who will get the #1 seed in the Big 12 tournament, who would you bet on?? .....and would you be nervous ?? I probably shouldn't have asked this, but sometimes I just come up with crazy stuff like this.

I'm identifying ISU, TCU, Baylor and Oklahoma State as the four teams most likely to win the conference. So let's look at the head-to-head matchups

TCU
OSU
@ BU
ISU
BU

OSU
BU
@ TCU
ISU
@ ISU

Baylor
@ OSU
@ ISU
TCU
@ TCU

ISU
BU
@ OSU
@ TCU
OSU

Each team has 4 games against the other teams being considered. TCU has three of those four games at home. All things being equal, I'd give the edge and my $10K bet on TCU on winning the regular season title.

Now ask me who wins the conference tourney, at this point all bets are off. Anyone can take the crown.

I'll put on those cardinal and gold glasses and say ISU, but if it was real money TCU

Toss up between TCU, ISU with Baylor and OSU on the outside by a hair.

That knowledge ain't much at this point after a handful of games and few of them being against anyone. Would have to give the nod to TCU, the Big 12 coaches pick, since they did beat a real ranked team on the road. Baylor did beat a than ranked team but that was an oddly out of sync game that I just think of as an outlier since it was a seven time zones away in Paris and the opener for both teams. We'll know more after Iowa/Baylor (maybe).

You'd think it would take time for TCU to gel with a hundred new gals to integrate into a team but so far they might look the part of fav.

Size alone doesn’t mean you can play defense. Being tall could result in a lot of arm slaps and reach overs trying to block her shot. And neither has Crooks physicality.

As the twister sisters get ready for the first test, Drake, and watching the home games… I am a bit concerned. The concern isn’t the talent or the toughness of the team. My concern with the coach and the game plan. Watching CBF boil over at the start of every game that the team isn’t doing something “right “. The time to fix a majority of this was before the start of the season… and looking at he team, 4 of the 5 starters are returning for their 2 to third year. Plus watching the offense reminds me of the start of last year. The 3 player and sometimes the 2 standing like statues on the wings. Audi trying to get position down low, Addy fighting for what she can get and getting frustrated when the shots don’t fall. The positive is the zest that Jada and Reese bring in.

Maybe things will change later, but for a coach claiming to watch film to change up the offense, things look the same.

Rant over.
