It's impressive our fan engagement in the conference.. even nationally! Top 30! For the record we'd be right in the middle of the B1G attendance. Imagine if we had more 9 or 10+ win seasons! Pollard would have to make a 3rd deck at Jack Trice.

However attendance at games means the square root of diddly squat. It's the lazy boy at home in his La-Z-Boy that's way more important to those in charge of college football.

So true! 60,000 are in the stands, but on average 1.15 million watched each Cyclone FB game.

Ik people say butts in seats dont matter to the tv money, and its true on the face of it. But those numbers DO show strong fan interest and that does matter some. Will be interesting to see if it matters more if/when streaming takes over

Due to the way different stadiums count their attendance capacity, it doesn't mean nearly as much. Plenty of stadiums actually have a true capacity higher than listed

If butts in the seats don't matter to TV, why do they usually move us to the side that is shown on TV in bowl games when they know we will fill our side and the other team may not.

??? What does that have to do with tv money and media contracts?

True. I should have said that both raw totals and percentage should be looked at when comparing attendance numbers.

If you just go on the average attendance, KSU and WVU look to be on even footing, but the percentage shows that KSU was at capacity and couldn't realistically draw any better for home crowds. In contrast WVU likely had low attendance numbers due to low expectations for the 2023 season but has the space for 9000 more fans per game and should have better attendance after a bounce back year.

I mean, I would not want to give away the $17M-/+ Iowa State generates from ticket sales to football, not including anything else they make on game days.

That is a pretty important chunk of change. Yes, media is more, but butts in the seats are still pretty important.

Iowa State doesnt oversell or at least doesnt count attendance for standing room above capacity. If we did our sell out games and games like the CyHawk would skew our numbers much higher. We undoubtedly would be above 100% if the AD would show/allow standing room numbers beyond capacity.
